Smither wins local post office from Newton in 1936
In June 1936 George Smither, a Democrat, took over the local post office from Republican R L Newton. His son Claude would later run the Smither produce business. Coffee cost 17 cents at Kohl's Briardale Grocery. The Rialto Theatre showcased Petticoat Fever starring Robert Montgomery and Myrna Loy. Walter F Budd led the ALR.

Worthing purchased the Anita Opera House from the Johnson brothers for 2 514 dollars. Mn Worthing and Sherman EF Myer formed a partnership to exhibit motion pictures there. At the time the Tribune was edited by Walter F. Budd, formerly Sherman’s printing foreman.
