Four Concrete Bridges Bid Notice Cass County

The Cass County Board of Supervisors invites bids for superstructures of four concrete bridges with May 17 1956 as a key date. Proposals must be on county forms sealed and filed within ten days after bid acceptance, with approved bonds for faithful performance. Smither wins local post office from Newton in 1936

In June 1936 George Smither, a Democrat, took over the local post office from Republican R L Newton. His son Claude would later run the Smither produce business. Coffee cost 17 cents at Kohl's Briardale Grocery. The Rialto Theatre showcased Petticoat Fever starring Robert Montgomery and Myrna Loy. Walter F Budd led the ALR.

Loyal Possehl won nomination for supervisor in recent primaries. Newlyweds Miss Kelly and Kenneth Jorgensen noted. Anita Remembers A Year Ago Postmaster and School Honors

Russell Morgan served as temporary postmaster of Anita in June 1955 succeeding George Smither. Anita High School seniors on the year’s final honor roll were Leona Gissibs Donna Misner Judy Parker Kay Robison and Tom Salmon. Coffee at Erne’s was 69 cents for 4 pounds. Margaret and David Ash were editors of the Anita Tribune.

Anita Opera House Sold in 1911 and Reopened for Films

Worthing purchased the Anita Opera House from the Johnson brothers for 2 514 dollars. Mn Worthing and Sherman EF Myer formed a partnership to exhibit motion pictures there. At the time the Tribune was edited by Walter F. Budd, formerly Sherman’s printing foreman.
