An aging car owner notes his five year old vehicle drives with brakes pulling to the left. He suspects uneven wear or mechanical issues and considers actions to fix the problem.
A man on a routine drive notices slipping brakes at a stop sign and again mid journey. After shopping and a near garage stop, a child and dog dart into the road. The brakes fail as he brakes, leaving him with the grim sight of a boy lying still and a dog nearby.
Mrs Glynn Warren of Route 3 Atlantic Iowa was chosen to succeed Mrs Lawrence Isaacson of Red Oak as ninth district Farm Bureau committeewoman. The vote occurred at the ninth district spring conference held May 18 in Red Oak. Warren will direct twelve counties and sit on the state Farm Bureau women's board chaired by Mrs C C Inman. Warren has served as Cass county women’s chairman for two years after serving as secretary.
Mrs. Warren serves as county treasurer and Pymosa township chairwoman, helping organize ten townships. She led the county rural women effort, chaired fair booths, and is active in Farm Bureau, 4-H, PTA, WSCS, and local clubs. Her husband is township school board president and active in Farm Bureau. Larry is a 4-H member.
Mrs Bert Willison of Norwalk Iowa suffered a severe stroke. Word arrived that her sister Mrs Kuhn, accompanied by Mrs Scholl and Mr Gissibl, drove to Norwalk Monday afternoon. Scholl and Gissibl are also siblings of Mrs Willison.
The Eureka Eaglettes 4 H club met May 23 at Janet Tauvior home in Murs with Leland Taylor as hostess. Janet Taylor presented a muffin baking demonstration and a lovely lunch was served. Next meeting at Meredith Steele home with eggs and breakfast cereals demonstration. Meredith Steele and Janet Taylor are Eaglettes camp candidates.
Four Cass county women officers attended the ninth district spring conference in Red Oak on Friday May 18. Attendees included Glynn Warren Donald Wilson Roland King Archie Anstey and Betty Jane Bradley. A separate note says Emmetsburg sailor James Overmire on furlough from the navy damaged his car after steering into a cow near Ayrshire with about 400 dollars in damage.
The Link Linkettes met May 14 in the Atlantic Court house Assembly Room. Dorothy Schwartz and others spoke on Are We Depending Too Much On Our Government for Our General Welfare. Plans were made for the May Breakfast on May 20 with Winona Knop and the Sothmans on the committee. In case of rain the breakfast moves to May 27. Mr and Mrs Paul Miller Debra of Omaha visited with Mrs Miller's parents.
