County Board Proceedings at Atlantic May 18 1914

Atlantic Iowa board of supervisors meets by adjournment with five members present. They authorize tax abatements for a Lewis sidewalk, approve screening county home doors, grant grading contract with Hart Parr Co. and award Kimballton culvert project. The session bills and road petitions are listed with numerous vendors and county-wide road allocations.

Atlantic County Board Notes Reflect Bridges and Charities

Cass County Board approves construction of two bridges and a culvert in Atlantic area, with estimates of 539.60 and 550.00, and sets June 1 public hearing. Also rebates and tax adjustments for various residents and firms, plus routine audits, expenses, and district meetings.

Missionary meeting and church notes from Loo U E Church

The Keystone League of Christian Endeavorers holds a missionary meeting next Sunday evening led by Mrs Nellie Henderson on the topic Converted Purses. Union services last Sunday were well received by Rev Wilkins and Rev Nichols. Decoration Day dinner planned at the Odd Fellows hall. First quarterly conference meeting set for next weekend with business session sermons and communion. The schedule conflicts with the M E church union service.

A large congregation gathered for a Memorial Sermon honoring the local G A R post. Next Sunday’s Bible School lesson is on the Thankful Samaritan. Notable local families attend Sunday event on the Botha

W C T U Meeting at North Anita Acknowledges Late President

Mrs J B Herriman hosts the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in North Anita. A program honors the late national president Lillian Stevens, including a solo by Georgia Thomas and readings by Mrs Bontrager and Mrs Wilkins. The group adjourns after light refreshments, planning to meet Mrs Thomas Kelley in June.

Edith Pilmer of Cass County Dies at 19

Edith Pilmer was born April 6, 1895 in Lincoln township Cass County Iowa and died May 21 1914 at her home near Gilmer Nebraska aged 19 years 1 month and 15 days. She lived with her parents until December 1911 when the family moved to Nebraska seeking health relief but improvement was temporary. She had a sunny disposition and cheerful temperament and was beloved by all who met her. The remains were moved to Anita for burial in Evergreen cemetery after funeral services at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Robert W. Swick.
