Des Moines May 23 Negotiations near completion for an extension of the Inter Urban railway from Colfax to Newton Iowa connecting Des Moines to Jasper county seat. The fourteen mile link to be made by leasing the old Newton & Northwestern track. Homer A. Loring receiver Fort Dodge Des Moines Southern says line will be extended. Inter Urban offers 15000 yearly for use on a 260600 valuation.
Governor Carroll to deliver welcome address at Coliseum as about four hundred Iowa funeral directors attend the twenty-ninth annual convention. The three day program includes lectures a banquet and a business session likely the largest gathering in the history of the association.
Davenport May 23 Judge Letts discharged the jury that tried Rudolph Brandenburg for killing his stepfather Claus Muenter on February 27. The jury had been out 56 hours longer than any prior Scott county panel. A second trial is unlikely.
Harvard men of Iowa will banquet at the Chamberlain hotel Friday evening May 26. Alumni will attend the field meet in a body and a reception for the old grads will follow.
Des Moines council authorized bonds totaling 157661 dollars for the Walnut street bridge project. There will be 158 bonds in a twenty year serial issue, with market placement planned within a week.
