The Cumberland post office changes Saturday hours starting May 17 with the lobby open 9:00 to 10:00 for packages or stamps, and collection by mail from 9:00 to 10:00. No mail in the outside box after 5:45 p.m. and all items go to Creston with a Creston postmark, so avoid local addresses.

Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Stratton of Le Mars and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riggs of rural Cumberland announce the engagement of their children Jacqueline and Jon. Jacqueline will graduate this month from Iowa State University and is employed at the Boone County Activity Center in Boone. Jon will be a senior in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology at Iowa State University. The wedding is planned for Aug. 16 in Le Mars.

Corning National Guard taps Lt Wayne Denham as commander
Lt Wayne Denham of Cumberland sworn in as commander of Co A 1st Bn 168th Infantry at Corning National Guard Armory on May 16. He replaces Capt Marvin Pearson who will lead Support Co. The Corning unit remains under strength eight personnel, risking federal recognition. Armory hours extended Thursdays to recruit.

Obituary notes Dick Eblen 75 of Cumberland died Saturday at Cass County Memorial Hospital. He was a road contractor and farmer, survived by four daughters a son and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Cumberland with interment at Greenwood Cemetery and Masonic graveside rites by Comfort Lodge AF&AM Massena.

Dale Inhofe was dismissed from Cass County Hospital after several days of treatment. Louis D Edwards returned home from Cass County Memorial Hospital following major surgery. Atlantic Chamber honors 28 Cass County women including Mrs Ambrose Cullen, Mrs Tone Hartman, Mrs Bruce Kenny, and Mrs Phyllis Jones. Oskaloosa callers visited Mr and Mrs Cecil Boos for Ed Rothe wedding. Fred Holste returned home after a week at Cass County Memory Hospital. Merle Smith died in Sun City where she and her sister Bess Smith had made their home. The body was cremated. Sisters are Mrs Claire Massdrem gona and Mrs Frances Peel. An Army nurse, Mr and Mrs Steve Wagner of Louis Ma are parents of a child born May 16 weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce named Kitten Marie. Grandparents are August Hy mert and Ghyet Waynes.

Memorial Day will be observed Monday May 26 at 11 in Cumberland. Donald Lee Post 320 American Legion will conduct services at Cumberland Park with Rev Ron Ozier delivering the address. Legion members meet at the Legion Hall 10:30. A covered dish dinner follows in the Hall. Auxiliary members will assemble May 24 at 8 to craft poppy wreaths for placing on veterans graves.
