Anita group gains articles of incorporation from National Chamber

Attendees from multiple Iowa towns gathered in Red Oak for the Legion and Auxiliary 7th district spring conference. Southwest Iowa Track Meet At Griswold Described Odd

The Griswold event on Wednesday turned into more of a swimming meet due to weather. Anita's 440 relay team won second place with Bob Kelly Gary Neighbors Roger Harris and Gail Miller. The 860 relay team also placed with Bob Kelly Gary Neighbors Ben Mackrill and Gail Miller earning third. Rob Kelly finished fourth in the 100 and tied for third in high jump while Tom Salmon was fourth in football throw and discus. Coach Ted Phillips noted Anita underperformed in individual events.

Last American Legion dance of the season on Main Street

Spring signs appear as Saturday evening marks the final American Legion dance of the year. Dances run biweekly from fall until warm weather ends the season. George Lauser Munday completed a clean up by painting the woodwork on the Anita Hardware storefront.

Goons Invade Anita Coon Population Surges At Lumber Yard

A mother raccoon has taken up residence in the upstairs apartment of the Anita Lumber building on Walnut street. She gave birth to five kits and moved them into the wall after discovery. Workers report raccoon tracks on fresh lumber and another attic colony found at the Christian church during remodeling, signaling a growing raccoon presence in Anita.

Anita Alumni Banquet Planned at High School Gym

The Anita Alumni Association announces the annual banquet set for Friday May 22 at 7 pm in the high school gym. Guests include the class of 1903 in its 50th year and the class of 1953 with sponsors. class of 1928 members will be honored for their 25th year. Removal of Canopy Opens Standard Oil Station for Larger Trucks

Work started this week at the Standard Oil Station to remove the canopy allowing larger trucks to be serviced. By month end a main from Atlantic will open the station for business.

Anita High School Annuals Out

Mrs Francis Gress returned home Saturday from Still hospital in Des Moines where she had been a patient for three weeks following spine surgery. Correction May 8 was reported as the last day for eighth graders. it should say Test Day. The Anita high school annuals were distributed Tuesday evening at an all high school dancing party sponsored by the student council.

Lions Club Holds Dinner Meeting Monday Night

The Anita Lions met Monday evening at the Masonic hall for a one hour dinner. Rev Rodney W Riese of Viota spoke on the Lions club purpose as eight guests attended with each member bringing one dish. Members organized the meal details.

Families shuffling homes on Elm street and nearby

Mr and Mrs George Jensen moved Sunday from a basement home to Walt Dorseys Elm street residence. Ted Phillips formerly of that house moved to the Sterling Sorensen downstairs apartment. The Sorensens moved to the upstairs apartment.

Re-Entrants Hospital After Surgery

Art Baxter returned to University hospital in Iowa City Friday morning and underwent twent y surgery Tuesday. He is in Ward 51 and hopes to be home in a week or so. The Anita eighth grade class day program is set for May 13 at 2 30 PM in the school gym with 19 students in the class and a phonetic aid and other numbers to be presented.

Hog Clinic At Atlantic Next Wednesday Evening

A hog clinic will be held next Wednesday evening May 14 at B o'clock in the Atlantic school auditorium. Cerl Schafer of Hampton will speak as the principal presenter and the public is invited. The event is sponsored by Farmers Hybrid Hogs.

Undersea Theme Dazzles Anita High Junior Senior Banquet

Thirty nine juniors hosted guests including faculty and seniors at Anita High School for the annual banquet on May 1. The gym was transformed into a sea setting with coral, blue waves, gold coin favors, and submarine centerpieces. A toast program, musical numbers, and a Des Moines girl orchestra followed a dinner prepared by junior mothers, with over 180 attendees enjoying dancing and entertainment.

Lindblom Wins Four Year Scholarship to ISTC Cedar Falls

Carol Jane Lindblom, daughter of Glen and Mrs Lindblom, received word last week she earned a four year scholarship to study in the education department at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. The scholarship covers free tuition after she passed a competitive exam at Carroll three weeks ago. She will enter college in June after graduating from Anita high school and plans to specialize in elementary education.
