Iowa Eyes Forest Week and Looming Lumber Bill
The piece argues for American Forest Week amid concern over Iowa's $42 million annual lumber bill. It cites 1.5 million cords of wood and 262 million board feet used by wood industries, plus 2.5 million acres suited to timber crops and calls for better records on woodland value by farmers. It notes wildlife value and fish stocks yield about 15 dollars per acre, highlighting potential gains from properly managed land.
