Petersen to begin Army basic training and guards drill
Robert Petersen, son of Mr and Mrs Art Petersen, left Saturday by bus for Conneil Bhaiffs and then by train for Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for basic training. He joins the Army Reserve Unit for six months of training and will drill weekly with the National Guard after. Eva Hague, nursing care consultant for the State Dept of Public Health, led a patient care class at Potter Nursing Home in Anita last Wednesday April 26 for staff of Potter homes in Anita and Adair. She also taught at the state mental hospital in Clarinda and is the only consultant in Iowa under a new federal geriatrics gratuate program.

Town Country to Take Over Vetter Insurance Agency
Arrangements were completed between Joe Vetter owner of the Vetter Insurance Agency and E D Brocker and Paul Clemmensen of Town and Country Insurance Agency for the assimilation of the Vetter Agency. Effective June 1 all files and service will transfer to Town and Country. Mrs Vetter will assist in the changeover and will be trained part time at Town and Country after June 1. Vetter plans to retire gradually and enjoy more leisure time. After June 1 all business with the Vetter Agency will be handled at the Town and Country office.

Firefighters battled two incidents in Anita. A grass fire near Howard Lett’s residence caused no damage. Earlier, at 803 Third Street, a kitchen blaze due to wiring cut into the ceiling and wall, with upstairs belongings moved out and smoke damage to the rest. Damages estimated at $1000. Coach Bert Adams thinclads swept the SWIC Scigs at Griswold last Wednesday for their third title in four years as five conference records fell. Anita's 440 relay team set a prelim mark of 46.8 while Tom McLuen and Dor Pritchard led multiple events.
