New Tribune Plant To Rise East Of Walter Dorsey Home

Anita publisher F. Jebsen has bought land east of the Dorsey home to build a Tribune printing plant. Construction by Wm. McIntyre starts around June 1 with a 24 by 49 foot frame building to house Linotype presses and equipment. Moving date for machinery is tentatively July 1. no copy interruptions for readers. Also note Mark McDermott earned admission to the U S Military Academy at West Point for four years, reporting July 5 after July 5 is return to academy.

Anita Donors Give 91 Pints of Blood in Cass County drive

Ninety one pints of blood were contributed to the regional Red Cross bloodmobile unit in Anita, Cass County, with 109 donors, 91 accepted and 18 no shows. The event drew staff from Omaha and local volunteers, including the American Legion auxiliary canteen workers, and featured Dr. G M Adair as medical director and Dr. Perry Williams arriving.

Atlantic Wedding Vows Held At Hospital Bed

Roy Thompson 35 of Adair and his Cameron Mo. family were injured in a Saturday night crash at highway 6 and 71 near Atlantic while en route to his Sunday wedding. The ceremony occurred at Atlantic Memorial Hospital with Reverend Harold Butts officiating and guests gathered at the hospital bedside. The wedding party included Miss Charlotte Koob and Harvey Thompson with a reception at Anita. Memorial Day plans were announced by local organizations and a baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Donald Baxter.

Anita school band to perform May 10 concert

The Anita school band will give a concert May 10 at 8 00 p m in the high school auditorium. The program features pieces learned in the past month and honors National Music Week May 7 14 with a free will offering to fund next year’s music. Mr and Mrs Duncan McMartin attended a funeral in Omaha Nebraska for his sister in law Mrs Kenneth McMartin.

Don Karns Selected For Boys State

Don Karns was chosen as Anita's delegate to Boys State to be held in Des Moines from June 4 to 11. Karns, son of Mr and Mrs Cloyd Karns, is a junior at A H S and a member of the community effort honoring loyalty service and scholarship. Alumni Banquet tickets go on sale May 17 at 6:00 pm for May 19 with the program committee and many volunteers listed.

Anita Enters Griswold Track Meet

Fourteen high school boys and six junior high boys will compete in the Southwest Iowa Conference track meet at Griswold on Saturday May 6. Anita previously placed third in this meet last year.

Oliver Saxton dies suddenly in Anita at 55

Funeral services for Oliver Le land Saxton 55 of Anita were held Monday at the Methodist church with Rev. Harold Butts in charge. He died April 27 at Atlantic Memorial hospital. He was born September 16 1894 at Ute Iowa and lived in Crawford and Cass counties before moving to Anita three years ago. He married Erma Johnson in 1915 and is survived by his wife five children twelve grandchildren and several relatives. Numerous relatives attended from out of town.

Child Drinks Kerosene Receives Quick Hospital Care

Kenneth Dean Kinzie, son of Mr and Mrs Kinzie, accidentally drank kerosene Friday. He was taken to a local physician then Atlantic hospital, placed under an oxygen tent briefly, and recovered enough to return home after a few hours.

Four New Houses Planned on West Edge of Anita

Alfred Skip Cement announced plans to build four new homes on the west edge of Anita where highway 6 turns out of town. The houses will cost 9 000 to 11 000 dollars each and are described as the most modern in Anita, to be constructed by local contractor Kenneth Turner.

Summer Playground Program Formulated Here in Anita

Four local groups sponsor a summer supervised playground and recreation program led by Bruce Peters athletic coach. A four member committee from each group meets Peters to plan a half day program with midget baseball basketball volleyball horseshoes track and field for boys and girls. The park commission pledges help and donations to buy equipment are being sought through Ben McLuen at the bank.

Neighbors Plow 40 Acres for Carl Brown Near Anita

Seventeen neighbors from Anita and nearby areas plowed and harrowed 40 acres of corn ground for Carl Brown southeast of Anita. The workers endured light rain and finished by 3:30 pm. Brown, recently ill after surgery and a spring flu, received the aid from local volunteers including James Edgar and Charles Dressler among others.
