Lutheran Mission to Hold Get Acquainted Service Sunday

Anita Lutheran Mission will hold a special Get Acquainted service Sunday afternoon at 2 40 in the Anita high school forum. Rev A O Ke of St Pauls in Carroll will give the afternoon address. Zion Lutheran and St Johns choir will provide music as the service moves from afternoon to evening hour. The mission, started by Rev Theo Hoemann about NM months ago, has grown rapidly and will be meeting in the C F hall to acquaint attendees with the Keran Mission.

Huckelberry Finn Opens Friday For 3 Day Run

The Rialto Theatre presents Mickey Rooney in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for three days Friday through Sunday. The film follows Huck and a runaway slave on the Mississippi with comic and dramatic episodes filmed along the Sacramento River. Also showing is Bobby Breen in Fisherman's Wharf with a father son theme and musical numbers.

Schwenke Denney Tie The Knot In Atlantic

Ma We Schwenke of Massena and Leslie Denney of Anita wed Tuesday morning at Atlantic in a ceremony conducted by Justice of the Peace P. I. Appleman. Attendants include the brides mother Mrs Otto E Karas and the grooms mother Mrs Joe Denney. After a short honeymoon in Minnesota the couple will settle in Anita where the groom farms. Also on the page Dennis Pearce recovers from heat injuries after being thrown from a horse at the Pearce farm southeast of the city. Final Rites Held in Anita For Mrs Meta Warncke

Mrs Meta Warncke of Wiota died April 25 at home after several weeks illness. Born in Germany July 17 1861, she came to the U S at 23, married Henry Warncke in Fontanelle 1884, lived in Adair county then Atantic, later Wiota. Survived by husband. Funeral 2 PM Thursday at Long funeral home Anita. buried Evergreen Cemetery.

Cass County Court Records Include Foreclosures and Guardianships

In Cass County a batch of actions was filed including two real estate foreclosures on farms near Anita and Massena. Guardian petitions for Baxter and Weir were lodged, plus a replevin suit by Minneapolis Moline against Bierbaum. The week offers a sleigh ride event in Anita with Eskimo Huskies for youths under 14, with free tickets at local businesses.

The Cass county Parent-Teacher association holds its annual meeting in the county courthouse assembly room this Wednesday at 1 30 PM. Corning Collects Damages From Utility Company

County Clerk Tunis Van Pelt received a $10,241.10 check from Lincoln office of Town-Nebraska Light & Power Company for damages in the Corning case against Iowa-Nebraska Light & Power. The $470.41 costs are paid, leaving $9,760.69 to be transmitted to Corning’s treasurer, after court costs. The long 1936 dispute ended with the high court awarding damages, but net proceeds depend on fees and expenses. City attorney fees and engineering costs may reach about $2,000. claimed by C. M. Slaymaker and Young & Stanley, with other minor charges. Also notes Ross Kohl of Brierdale Hospital recovering from ruptured appendix surgery.

Anita Girl Wins Interstate Spelling Bee at Sioux City

Gretchen Daughenbaugh an eighth grader from Anita schools won both oral and written contests at the twenty third Interstate spelling event held in Hotel Martin Sioux City with 113 contestants from Iowa Kansas Minnesota Missouri Nebraska and South Dakota. Dr Roy Eaton will present the Eaton trophy at a PTA meeting May 9 and local booster B D Forshay long time coach helped produce many champions. George H Alexander seeks interested youths 17 to 29 for summer citizen military training camps starting in June.

Butterfat tax in effect for 15 days in Iowa

A one cent per pound butterfat tax on all butterfat marketed in Iowa will be collected during the first 15 days of May. Proceeds, estimated at 120000 to 135000 dollars, will finance advertising and sales promotion of dairy products. Producers bear the tax via price deductions. processors aid collection. The fund is managed by the Iowa dairy industry commission.
