The 3400 rpm Chalmers engine sets a record for American stock cars with seamless acceleration and smooth idling. It combines rapid speed transitions, stable ride, and durability, delivering motor enchantment at affordable prices through Chalmers dealers.
Howard Marshall left for Houston to join the San Antonio team of the Texas League for the coming season. He signed as an outfielder after negotiations with Manager George Leidy. Marshall has prior league experience and batted .280 last season with Terra Haute in the Central League. He may also serve as high school football coach, having helped Atlantic win the southwest Iowa championship.
A. C. James argues that dairy cows should be judged by profitability beyond milk alone. He compares steer calf values from grade Short Horn and grade Jersey cows, suggesting a cow whose bull calf is valuable and whose butterfat income exceeds feed costs, while noting that some Short Horns are poor breeding. He cautions against generalizing about all Short Horn cows and defends the milk productive type.

A Burlington conductor on the Red Oak to Hamburg line faced a passenger with an old October 14 1890 ticket from Lynn Iowa to Essex Iowa claiming cash fare rights for a non continuous journey. The passenger asserted his right and was allowed to ride from Red Oak to Essex after the conductor relented. The Carson Critic announces its price increase to 1.50 after June 1. A YP D Club dance drew about forty couples at the opera house with several out-of-town guests. Funeral attendees included Lew Kuehn and Mrs Julia Dornhouff and Mrs Tresa Sinsel of Heartwell Nebraska, siblings of A J Kuehn.
The calendar lists filing deadlines for county offices on May 6, the Democratic presidential convention on May 10 in Clinton, and a state primary for state and county offices on June 5 with equal suffrage on the ballot. National conventions feed into a summer schedule culminating in the November 7 general election. Miss Emma Wake returns from Adair after visiting relatives.
