Anita Senior Wins Three Year Nursing Scholarship

Miss Carol Virginia Osen daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Osen of Anita has won one of six three year nursing scholarships awarded by the Iowa division of the American Cancer Society The award covers tuition fees books and uniforms for three years of nursing training at an accredited Iowa school She plans to attend Iowa Methodist Hospital Des Moines and must complete training and practice in Iowa for two years after graduation The program aims to relieve nursing shortages and expand services for needy cancer patients in Iowa Miss Osen a top student at Anita High School who will graduate this month is active in music sports dramatics and church choir She wrote in her essay that nurses help the sick and injured who depend on others

Marinus Jensen Appointed Mail Messenger

Marinus Jensen of Anitan is named by the United States Postal Department as mail messenger, replacing the resigning Jake Donahue. Jensen began his duties Tuesday as Frank Weimer recovers from a fractured hip at Atlantic Memorial Hospital.

Juniors Host Banquet and Prom Night at High School

Committees run the junior senior banquet and prom set for Friday May 4 at 6 30 p m in the high school gym supervised by Miss Ermine M Brown and Mrs Harry Dressler co sponsors of the junior class. Mothers plan to serve a meal with sophomore class as waiters and waitresses. Each student may invite a guest who enters prom at 9 00 p m with invitation and dance program.

Cheyenne Couple Welcomes Son Wayne D Stauffer

Proud parents Mr and Mrs Stanley D Stauffer of Cheyenne Wyoming announce the birth of a son on April 14 weighing seven pounds 11 ounces. The child is named Wayne D paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Elmer Stauffer former Anita residents and he is a great nephew of Mrs Alpha Nelson and Mrs Robert Scott.

Automobile Dealers Initiate May Vehicle Safety Campaign

Dealers in Anita and across Iowa join a May inspection drive sponsored by the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association and the Iowa Safety Congress along with state and national safety groups. Cars passing inspection receive green and yellow stickers and a safety slogan to promote safer summer travel.

Anita Vocalists Earn Two Firsts at State Music Contest

Miss Donna Brownfield won first place in treble high division with LaDonna Mobile and My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hair as part of 5000 attendees at Grinnell during the Iowa State Music Contest. Miss James King took first in treble medium with Nocturne amid large competition from about 165 students.

New Ball Park Discussed at Anita Meeting

A Wednesday night meeting with the school board town officials and Greater Anita Club reviewed plans for a new athletic park. Proposals include a combined baseball softball field a playground and running track with lighting. A committee led by Les Eddy and Skip Dement will study feasibility and the land at the football field site jointly owned by Anita Public School and town. Cooperation is urged to move the project forward for year round use.

Eighth Grade Visitation Day At Anita High School

On Monday April 30 eighth grade students visited Anita High School to learn about high school life. They attended regular classes with freshmen then joined a school wide program at 11 entertainment included musical numbers skits and square dancing. Coach Peters spoke on the benefits of a high school education. Lunch hour mixed eighth graders with students and enjoyed recreation.

Miss De Etta Brownfield Selected for Girls State

The American Legion Auxiliary unit in Anita announces Miss De Etta Brownfield, daughter of Mrs. E. R. Jebsen, a junior at Anita High School, as their representative to the sixth Hawkeye Girl State at Grinnell College, June 17 to 24. The project aims to promote citizenship training and Americanism.

Race track opening planned for Sunday if weather allows

Anita Speedway may host an opening event next Sunday May 6 with time trials at 1 30 p m depending on track conditions and weather. The past two weeks have been soggy from inclement weather.

Alumni Banquet Tickets Due By May Sixteenth

Plans for the alumni banquet on Friday May eighteenth call for ticket purchases by Wednesday May sixteenth. no tickets sold at the door. The dinner is at 6 30 p m in the high school gym with the graduating class as honored guests. Church of Christ women serve.
