A local report outlines a Monday school meeting at the Anita area, confirming Miss Ot ly Peterson will teach kindergarten for another year. Masons Hold Annual Banquet Hosted at Masonic Temple

The Masons held their annual banquet Monday evening at the Masonic Temple with 34 Fast Matrons and Past Patrons in attendance. A three course dinner was served by the K. J. A. club of the Christian church. The event honored outgoing Columbia Chapter O. E. S. officers Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harris. May baskets with tulips decorated tables, and Mrs. A. A. Johnson served as master of ceremony delivering welcomes and toasts from Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Scott. Past Matrons Mrs. A. V. Robinson, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Glen Soper led the event.

Five Anita Men Reported for Preinduction Examinations

Fifty one Cass county registrants reported to the selective service board in Atlantic for preinduction exams. From Anita five men were sent to Fort Leavenworth Kansas: Glenn D. McCrory Oscar L. Mikkelsen George H. Aggen Arthur B. Nagel and Howard C. Johnson.

Resignation of Rev. Ralph Noyce as state work superintendent

Rev. Ralph B. Noyce of Grinnell resigns after two years as shtant superintendent of Congressional state work to accept a pastorate in Sandwich Illinois. The Noyce family has lived in Grinnell during this period, with past service in Atlantic and Anita communities noted.

Service Members Return and Receive Honors

Clark Weise left Wednesday for Santa Ana California on furlough after 37 months in the south Pacific. He has earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and wears two stripes and eight stars. Capt. Dale McCrory of Austa, flight officer in the Eighth Air Force in England, earned a second oak leaf cluster for leading a P-51 bombing mission over Germany on February 25. Capt. McCrory is the son of Mr and Mrs Wm McCrory, south of Anita.

Beatrice Darrow Is Anita High Senior Valedictorian

Beatrice Darrow daughter of Mr and Mrs Ted Darrow has been chosen valedictorian of the Anita High School Class of 194? Pvt Homer Bangham stationed at Camp Crowder Mo is the class salutatorian. A family dinner honored Pvt Bangham and Lt Ivan Joens who is ill in hospital.

Anita Alumni Disbands After War Era Meeting

Anita Alumni officers and board met to disband the group due to wartime conditions. They plan to resume in 1946 with the 20th anniversary of the organization and an annual banquet honoring the 1945 graduates. Commencement to Include Caps and Gowns for ISU Graduates

For the first time since 1920 ISU graduates will wear caps and gowns at Commencement. Roy C Cunningham YMCA general secretary at Iowa State College will be the sneaker. The Junior Senior banquet is Friday. Class Night May 11 Taccalaureate May 18 and Commencement May 18. Mrs Edna Bailey of Anita is at Callaway Neb where she was called by the death of her brother George Tompkin 45. Frank Tompkin of Atlantic and Mrs Bailey accompanied by Mr Tompkin were in ill health for five years. Mrs James McLeod and son Bruce and Mrs F E Henry and Mrs Francis Smith were visitors in Omaha last Friday.

Anita Boy Among Bismarck Sea Survivors Returns to San Francisco

Nearly 400 survivors of the U S Navy escort carrier Bismarck Sea were rescued after the February 21 sinking off Iwo Jima. R D Hagan of Anita, Seaman First Class, is among those on leave in San Francisco. The ship suffered ~100 dead amid heavy Japanese fire and mortar hits miles offshore.

Thelma Pieper Weds Lloyd Kline at Atlantic Parsonage

Mr and Mrs Louis Pieper announce the marriage of their daughter Thelma to Lloyd Kline son of Mr and Mrs Jay Kline of Anita. The ceremony happened at the Methodist parsonage in Atlantic on Wednesday April 25 with Rev Lauren B D Thomas officiating. Miss Maxine Pieper and Calvin Kline attended the couple. A seven oclock candle light dinner followed at the bride’s home. The couple will reside on a farm north of Anita.

Chapter P. E. O. held a regular Tuesday meeting at Mrs. Frank Weimer’s home. A short program featured roll calls inviting a stunt or joke or a dime payment. Mrs. Weimer told a humorist tale, an initiation service was conducted, and light refreshments were served.

17th War Loan Drive Getting Under Way

Cass County town meetings set May 14 for a one day drive to raise funds with a $1,137,000 county quota and $47,360 town target. Anita’s Robert Scott chairs the town drive. Bant Township and Franklin Township list quotas led by Harold McDermott and Phyllis Gissibl.

Raymond McAfee Celebrates 7th Birthday At Family Party

Twenty one children attended last Saturday at Mrs. Robert Wilson’s home for Raymond McAfee’s seventh birthday. Games were played and Mrs. Wilson served refreshments as Raymond received many gifts.

Methodist church hosts monthly meeting with 15 present

The W. S. C. of the Methodist church held its regular monthly session Friday afternoon in the church parlors with 15 members in attendance. Mrs. Harley Miller led devotionals and Mrs. Otto Miller, Mrs. Robert Wilson and Mrs. W. L. Peacock taught a lesson on British Methodism after Four Years of War. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Joe Beaver, Mrs. Lafe Koob, Mrs. Lester King and Mrs. Della King.

Mrs Potter visits Whitefish relatives then returns home

Mrs H H Potter of Whitefish Montana recently visited at the home of her brother Rev C L Thomas and returned home Tuesday morning. Mrs Wilma Forshay and her daughter Allanna of Newton were weekend guests of Mrs B D Forshay and Miss Minne Forshay. Forshay will teach in Newton city schools again next year.
