Class of 1934 to Graduate at Anita and Council Bluffs

The Anita high school will hold commencement with diplomas awarded to the class of 1934. Speakers include R. F., principal of Thomas Jefferson High School, Council Bluffs, and Rev. M. J. Rarick. Ceremonies occur May 17 at the Church of Monday. May 18 service at Congregational Church. Class night activities May 16 with a banquet to follow. Names listed include Budd, Burke, Hayter, Daughenbaugh, Johnson, Petersen, Ruggles, Wiese, Parsons, and others.

Township Republicans Name Township Ticket

Grant township held a town hall in Anita last Friday evening and nominated a full slate for the June primary. A Wilson was nominated for three years. Chris Birk for the year term. C Jenkins and C G Hayter for justices of the peace. Tank Bontrager and S W Tay for constables. H Osen for assessor. A A Hayter for township clerk. Grant H P Ziegler for committeeman. Mrs A E Campbell for committeewoman. Delegates from No 2 chosen for county convention. Nellie Williams of Omaha and Evelyn Stager hosted with others at a social gathering afterwards.

Six Different Numbers on Rialto Program This Week

The Rialto Theatre of Anita presents a six unit program this Saturday and Sunday featuring You're Telling Me starring W. C. Fields Buster Crabbe Joan Marsh and Adrienne Ames along with five short subjects including Around the Calendar Popeye cartoon The Man on the Flying Trapeze Lazy bones and a Paramount Newsreel. Fields stars as a small town optician with inventive schemes and a family on the wrong side of town as he tries to win his daughter’s hand and success delivering an encore of laughs and zany gadgets with Joan Marsh and Adrienne Ames in key roles.

Preparations For Anita Alumni Banquet Underway

Officers of the Anita high school alumni association announce plans for the annual banquet on Friday evening May 17. Honored guests will be the current graduating class. Committees include Banquet Decoration Legislative Music Membership Program Reception Finance and Banquet Tickets with detailed lists for each.

Solon Karns Heads Anita Kittenball Association Formation

A meeting at Levi barber shop last Friday organized the Anita Kittenball Association. Solon A. Karns was elected president with A. Robison as vice president and Harry Swartz as secretary treasurer. Four teams were set with captains Chas Young C. W. Clardy R. W. Smith and Robert Scott. Over fifty members joined. a Friday meeting will assign players. A rules committee and a lighting purchasing group were formed. Membership costs 1.00, with weekly games planned Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Legion Auxiliary Selects Convention Delegates

The American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs. C. H. Bartley s home and elected delegates Leah Mehlmann Ella Biggs Elva Steinmetz and Hattie Bartley to the district convention in Atlantic on May 10. A party for Gold Star mothers and sisters was planned for May 12 at Mrs. Russell W. Smith s home. Memorial day committee members were Inez Stone Roma Newton and Kathryn DeCamp. Junior dues for the year are one dollar. Glenn Metall wife and daughter Margaret of Bagley visited the grandmother Isabell Joy in the city.

Gail Burke to Be Special Guest at Iowa State College

Gail Burke a high school student from Anita is named special guest of Iowa State College for Veishea May 10 to 12. Selected as an outstanding student by the college and Weishea committee, she will join visitors for sports exhibits carnivals and plays. University teams will clash with Nebraska and Missouri in tennis track polo golf and football events. The Student Prince production May 11 and 12 and campus exhibits advanced research and social events round out the program for visiting high school students from across the state.

Basement Fire Damages Wilson Cafe Basement in Anita

A basement fire at Wilson's Cafe in Anita was discovered about 4:00 P.M. Monday by Raymond Barber of Johnson Plumbing Shop. Firefighters confined the blaze to the basement, preventing major damage to the building. Rexall One Cent Sale advertised for the week.

Cass County Oil Dealers Organize an Association

Cass County oil men gathered at the Calumet cafe in Atlantic to form a county oil dealers association. John Lang was elected chairman and G H Christensen secretary, with assistant chairmen named for Cumberland Massena Viota Anita Lewis Griswold Marne and Sarah. A May 7 meeting will feature Mel Long and E E Herring with a talk on the Iowa sales tax.

Cass County To Lead Graphic Arts Branch Meeting

W F Budd and wife attended a national recovery code authority meeting in Red Oak under Ralph E Overholser. Iowa is divided into fifteen districts with Cass County in district 12. Kenneth H Sidey of Greenfield elected district chairman and Budd selected Cass county chairman. The group urged adoption of the Porte price scale and full 2 percent Iowa sales tax on gross commercial printing receipts.

Lincoln township track meet held by Lincoln Schools

The fourth annual Lincoln township track meet was staged at Lincoln Center school. Dale Pace of Massena directed events with divisions 1, 2 and 1a. Winners included Helen Fowdle and George Scarlett in various races and jumps. Lincoln No 2 led with 37 points, followed by Lincoln No 6 and No 8. A Lincoln baseball team was formed for the county play day in Atlantic next Saturday, listing players and substitutes.

$100000 Paid Disabled Veterans to Make Poppies

Memorial poppies funded by the Legion Auxiliary provide work for hundreds of disabled World War I veterans.
