Elizabeth's Cafe on Anita Main Street announces a grand opening this Saturday with free cakes, beverages, and a full interior renovation. The cafe, formerly Melntire's Cafe, is operated by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Gill and Mrs. Harry Gill with plans to be open by Friday and a new aluminum awning soon.
Jerry Redburn urges registering at the First Aid Station to create a cross index of names addresses and blood types for emergencies. Anyone who knows their blood type and is willing to be contacted should register immediately at the station to help save lives.
Superintendent Gret C Hornbuckle announced three new teachers for the Anita Community School System to fill vacancies at term end. The hires include a married couple from Northwest Missouri State College and a Tarkio College graduate Miss Joan Nelson who will teach sixth grade.
About 450 students from kindergarten through 8th grade in Anita will perform Friday night in a Vocal Music Program at the Anita gym at 7 o clock. The free event is open to the public and marks the first time this type of program has been presented locally. Each grade will perform three numbers, with the whole group singing two together. The program opens with America the Beautiful and the flag presentation, then concludes with America. Director is Leland Blae. The arrangements committee includes Donald Brown and Mrs Carl Moore, Mrs Gay Karstens, Mrs Charles Paul Mailander, with Tom McLuen as master of ceremonies. Accompanists are listed and the gym is decorated with trees birds and spring flowers by Mrs Fries, Mrs Brown, and Miss Darlene Bleachery. The committee includes Westphal and Wheatley.
Calvin Klise, former local, is the new buyer for John Morrell and Co hog firm at a Marshall station opened April 22. The Klines and two daughters move from Sioux Falls to Larstall Falls after school ends. Mrs. G. M. Adair suffers a badly mangled right hand from a washing machine wringer incident last Tuesday.
Ayito event Saturday night proved lively with players and sponsoring merchants enjoying a smooth game. Jerry Reilburn led as caller from the Red Cross station with Gene Brochner and Roger Eddy assisting. Mike Lamberty of Viota won the first $25 gift certificate, with four other players named as finalists. All five advance to Gran Prize Games planned for next winter. next Anita game is scheduled for Saturday at 9 PM in downtown Anita.
The Auila Tribune announces Mrs Donald Havens of Wiota as new Wiota town correspondent replacing Mrs Gertrude Stuet elberg who recently married Frank Will and moved to Lincoln Township Readers are urged to submit Wiota items to Mrs Havens or to other correspondents across Anita territory to ensure full local news coverage.
Conrad Hornbuckle and other juniors and seniors will receive Certificates of Merit at a banquet today at Iowa State College Ames. The event honors outstanding leadership among students and staff.
Funeral services are held at 2 PM at Anita Methodist Church for Frank H. Osen 86 longtime Anita resident. He born June 18 1870 north of Atlantic married Katherine Myers June 5 1901. Surviving seven sons two daughters twelve grandchildren one great grandson. Burial in Atlantic cemetery.
Postmaster Russel Morgan reminds interested applicants that the next Wesdace day May 8 is the last day for filing applications for the Substitute Clerk Carrier examination at the local post office. Contact the post office here for the required forms.
Anita town council fills two vacancies at Monday meeting. Homer Rich selected to fill the unexpired term of Les Eddy on the council and Ben McLuen named to fill the unexpired term of Robert Scott on the utilities board. Elections set for next fall.
Anita Spartans finish second at the Southwest Iowa Conference Track Meet in Griswold with strong showings in relays and individual events. Lyle Laartz and Dwain Pierce win races while Larry McLaughlin, Tom Dorsey and Craig Eaken headline relay wins.
The Anita Community School music department spring concert and PTA installation were held last Thursday in the school gym. Mrs Bailey retired as president. Mrs Reed installed as president with officers including first vice president Mrs Holland and secretary Mrs Tevepaugh. Room mothers and committees were named for next year.
Terry Dean Hummer eight son of Dean Ro Hummer of Omaha was killed Saturday when his bicycle collided with a delivery truck in Omaha. Funeral services were held yesterday in Des Moines. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born January 4 1949 in Norwalk. Surviving are his parents a sister Debbie two brothers Keith grandparents and great grandparents.
The Anita Post Office will close on weekdays at 5:10 PM except Saturdays at 12:00 PM. Weekday openings start at 8:00 AM. This schedule remains in effect until further notice.
New babies report twin daughters born at Hastings Nebraska on April 16 to Mr and Mrs Spencer Holland. Paternal grandparents listed as Mr and Mrs Jens Holland. Also mentions a son born to Mr and Mrs Clyde Watkins weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces at Atlantic Memorial Hospital on a Friday morning at 2 58 O clock.
