Harrison Signals Changes To Revenue Bill In Senate

Harrison pledged to alter the revenue bill passed by the house as the Senate Finance Committee advances changes. In a 17 to 4 vote the panel removed the undistributed profits tax principle and replaced it with an 18 percent flat corporate income tax. It also pushed a provision to sharply modify the capital gains and leased tax, removing capital gains on assets held.

Navy Bill Passes House With 100 Vote Opposition

The House approved the administration's billion dollar Navy measure to build the largest fleet in U.S. history, adding 46 combat ships, 22 auxiliaries and 950 aircraft. The War Department said army and navy officers would study plans to muster over two million men within four months of a declaration of war, requiring 1,250,000 army recruits and 500,000 for the Navy. The first 300,000 would come as Volunteers before a draft system like 1917-18 is activated. A draft selective service law is ready for quick submission to Congress.
