Anita Utilities Board Proceedings Electric Plant Office
The Anita Municipal Utilities board met March 2 1957 with Chair Geo Shaffer and trustees Wilbur Matthews and Robert Scott present. Minutes from Feb 11 were read and approved and new business included transfers to sinking funds and a water supply agreement with the State Dept of Health. Bills were authorized including payroll, pump work, fuel, maintenance, and supplies with multiple vendors listed.

Anita Council Proceedings Special Session February 27 1957
The Anita Iowa town council met in a special session February 27 1957 with Mayor Burns and councilors Eddy Jewett Fletcher Moore and Walker present. They considered granting a franchise to Northern Natural Gas for constructing and operating a gas distribution system in Anita and read Ordinance No 507 three times before adoption. A resolution was offered for a special election April 16 to approve Ordinance No 507 and a notice plan for publication in the Anita Tribune. The meeting adjourned after routine business.

Iowa irrigation survey shows 26 807 acres under irrigation
A statewide survey led by Iowa State College agricultural engineer Beer reports 400 operators irrigated 26 807 acres in 1957, up from 1956 figures. Mono na County topped at 9 193 acres, with Mills Harrison Fremont Muscatine and Sioux among leading counties. About 60 percent used surface water and 40 percent drilled wells. sprinkler systems were used by 60 percent.

In 1917 the Anita Electric Light and Power Co. sold to Iowa Railway Light and Power Co. of Cedar Rapids and Perry. Earl Caddock wrestled Joe Stecher in Omaha. Local marriages included La yone Forester and Merle Dennie. Perry and Wiese ran local trades. Budin led the Anita Tribune as editor.

Twenty years ago on March 25 1937 Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor were set to star in Camille at the Anna Ri Alto Theatre. Town Burns a Grant township farmer and local liquor store manager rented a 100 acre Ed Jorgensen farm as he planned a closing out sale and move to Anita.
