Women readers outpace men in Iowa newspaper survey

A Iowa study by the State University of Iowa and Iowa Press Association found women readers of the Adams County Free in Corning read more news items than men. Among 153 men and 330 women, 94 percent of women read a given item and 78 percent of men did. Editorials and sports pages attracted higher readership in general, though women trailed men slightly on main page top stories.

Anita Sub-District Contest Honors Led by Louise Trumnbull

Thirty years ago Louise Trumnbull of Anita won first honors in the humorous division of the Sub-District Declamatory Contest held in Atlantic. The Farmers Supply Company closed its furniture line and moved its hardware to a new site. Anita mayor H. E. Campbell, top clerk W. T. Biggs, and editor Walter F. Budd of the Anita Tribune were noted in the item.

Anita postmaster race heats up with local endorsements

40 years ago Harry H. Cate earned endorsements for Anita postmaster to replace Ed L. Newton whose term ends next December. George Scholl led the recent primary and would likely become Anita’s next mayor. The Studebaker Four was advertised at 1050 dollars. H S Wilkins led the Congregational Church and Walter F Budd edited the paper.
