Anitas residents will vote April 16 on a non exclusive gas franchise proposed by Peoples Natural Gas Co of Omaha. Contracts totaling about $324,000 were awarded by the Anita Community show hall board last week to Betts and Beer Construction of Adair for $218,700. Barbara Brink and John Reta wed on February 20 at Atlantic. Open house for Merle Denne and spouse marked their 40th anniversary. Harold Cooper announces daughter Connie to wed Dale Jensen on March 16.

The Mothers club met at Grant No 2 school with all mothers present. Mrs Dorothy Woodruff is the teacher. Frantes Miller earned a place on the first team of the all confer.

Miss Geraldine Cleaver Attends Iowa Telephone Convention
Thirty years ago Miss Geraldine Cleaver of the lora telephone exchange attended the Iowa Independent Telephone Association convention in Des Moines. Anita Literary duty hosted a cassine party at Mrs. Joe Kopp’s home with about 60 guests. The program featured a musical reading by Joan Faulkner, Jack Long, Marjorie Renfield, and Robert Nelson, a square dance to The Old Fashioned Garden, and a reading by Mrs. E. Holton. Judges Dr. P. T. Williams, Dr. C. F. Harry and Rev. E. L. Anderson awarded the most beautiful costume to Miss Esther Thon, with light refreshments served by candlelight.

Funeral rites for Clause Marxen held in Macksburg
Neighbors and relatives attended the funeral of Clause Marxen in Macksburg on Saturday afternoon with burial in Atlantic. Various local residents and families visited one another over the weekend including Royce Nichols, Roger Watson, Bill Rupperle, and multiple cousins and grandparents. Ermine Brown served as a judge in the one act play division at the District Speech Contest in Anita.
