Reverend McEldowney Visits Sons at Simpson College

Rev. B W McEldowney traveled to Indianola to visit his three sons at Simpson College. Robert majors in music directs church choirs and a revival choir earning 12 fifty weekly. Morris studies liberal arts and plays trombone. James studies liberal arts and plays cornet or French horn. They share bachelor hall at 814 West Ashland Avenue with strong grades. The clergyman praises community support from Anita.

Wahlert Burns Quiet Wedding At Anita Home

Winifred Burns and Harold Wahlert wed in a February ceremony at the Burns home near Anita. Both graduates of Anita high school class of 1922, the couple plan a spring farm home 314 miles east of Anita after a brief wedding trip. Attendants include local and out of town guests. Rev. Robert N. Chord read the ring ceremony.

Louise Trumbull earned first in the dramatic class with Belshazzar the King and will advance to the subdistrict contest in two weeks. Cafe owner wins damages in Stuart raid case

In Guthrie Center on March 3 a district court jury awarded C. E. Jennewein proprietor of the Genuine cafe $800 for damages and costs from a New Year’s eve raid by self styled officers D. E. Peterson and W. I. Chase of Guthrie Center. The raid occurred during a crowded New Year’s dance with no intoxicants found. Jennewein had sought $5,000.

Clearing House Handles Big Sum Little Expense

Merchants in Jefferson Iowa formed a local clearing house after the third bank failed in January. Since January 4 the group handles about $70,000 weekly in drafts checks and cash with an initial $10,000 cash fund and average $3 per member monthly cost. Jefferson population 3500, trading center for about 10,000.

Longstanding W P G Club Hosts Noon Dinner

Mrs J C Calkins hosted the W P G club for a 12 o clock dinner at her Anita home. The club, Anita's first organized group, has remained active for about thirty years. Sunday marked the 20th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Martin Brehmer of Lincoln township with open house all day. Neighbors dropped by as well as H H Brehmer and wife and Mrs Martin Janss plus two children, Mr Brehmer's parents and sister, and Mrs Caroline Picken mother of Mrs Brehmer, from Atlantic.

Well Known Lady Salinda Spence Dies in Anita

Obituary notes the death of Salinda Spence at her son W R Spence’s home in Anita after a long life of faith. Born 1840 in Pennsylvania, she lived in Kansas, Atlantic, and Anita, wife of John Spence, mother to F B Spence and W R Spence, with nine grandchildren. Funeral at M E church in Anita. interment in Atlantic cemetery.
