Irvin Dorseys Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Irvin Dorsey observed their silver wedding anniversary February 19 with an open house at Anita Church of Christ attended by about 100 guests. The couple, married February 19 1936 in Des Moines, were honored at a table with Vernon Madole of Des Moines and August Crow of Atlantic. They have six children and a kitchen committee from the Pinochle club.

Albert Karns 40th wedding anniversary noted at home

Mr and Mrs Albert Karns Jr celebrated 40 years of marriage with a Sunday dinner at their Anita home. Attending were their children Duane Karns Judy and Jackie Karns Des Moines Eva Wale, Wade and Albert Karns, and seven grandchildren. The Karns family noted their 1921 marriage at the Evangelical church in Anita.

Fred Scholls Anniversary Open House Mar 12

The Scholls celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house at their Anita home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday March 12. They were wed March 15, 1911, at the Gisible home by Rev C E Cushman. They have two sons, two grandsons, and two granddaughters.

Refresher First Aid Course at Anita Station

Persons with valid advanced first aid cards can join a refresher at Anita first aid station beside the theatre at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Each session lasts three hours, totaling six hours to renew a card for three more years. Instructors are Bill Parker and Jerry Redburn.

Battle Cry at Anita Theatre This Weekend

Warner Bros. re release Battle Cry opens at the Anita Theatre this Saturday and Sunday evenings. The film features Van Heflin Al Dos Ray Mona Freeman Tab Hunter Dorothy Malone Anne Francis James Whitmore and Raymond Massena. Leo Uris wrote the screen version based on his sensational novel and the cast includes Ray and Whitmore who took part in the Saipan invasion.

Trucker Fined After Sale Barn Collision

Earl Wilcoxen of Villisca was fined 15 dollars and costs in Atlantic justice court for improper passing after a Jan 3 accident at the Anita Sale Barn corner. He suffered injuries in the crash while attempting to pass Thomas Richter of Viota as Richter turned toward the barn.

Mr and Mrs Nolan Stockham and Kathy moved this Wednesday from the Cement place where they had lived for years to the farm formerly owned by Mrs Wm McCrory. The Stockhams have built a new house on the farm.

Mrs. Mary Walker Dies Suddenly at Home in Anita

Mrs. Mary Agnes Walker age 78 died Thursday evening at 6 10 at the Anita home of her daughter and son in law Mrs Phil McLaughlin after a year there. Funeral services were held Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Adair with Rev E C Zimmermann and organist and pallbearers listed. Interment in St John’s Cemetery northwest of Adair. She was born March 27 1882 in Grant township Guthrie county daughter of John and Christina Graner married J Adam Walker March 19 1902 lived on a farm north of Adair until 1951 moved to Adair. Surviving are three sons Roy Elmer Clair Walker of Adair two daughters Mrs Fred Jergens Bridgewater and Mrs Phil McLaughlin Anita 12 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren and a brother George Grauer Oxford Co.

Power restoration after ice storm hits Anita area

Anita utility patrons faced widespread outages as an ice storm swept the region. Local engines operated from 6 30 AM to 9 PM on Saturday February 18 to restore service, with no lines broken in Anita though efforts to reconnect to the Town Electric high line failed. Rural customers south of Massena and Bridgewater were without power for days.

Operetta at Capacity Draws Anita Junior High Crowd

Junior High students from Anita Community staged the operetta Tn Grand Old Switz erland at the Anita high school auditorium drawing a full house. Director Norman Millard assisted by Greg Scholl led a cast featuring Carolyn Scholl and a Swiss chorus with a German band. Proceeds fund junior high activities. Also reported is the marriage of Miss Marilyn Jensen and Ronald Dill with a home in Omaha after a February 25 ceremony in Atlantic.

Ed Blakesley former banker dies at 83

Ed Blakesley 83 a former banker at Anita and Wiota died Sunday at his Wartford home after a year long illness from a stroke. He was born in Anita and served as vice president of Anita Citizens Savings bank before buying the Wiota Savings bank. He later worked as a delinquent tax accountant traveling the state. Survived by wife three sons a daughter two sisters a brother ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral held Wednesday at Anita Congregational church with interment in Evergreen cemetery.
