Chinch Bugs Seen More Serious In Iowa Fields
Ames Iowa June 28 reports from county agents in southern Iowa note several hundred fields of small grain and corn damaged by chinch bugs. The pest is more serious than last year’s grasshopper invasion. Farmers employ barriers with kerosene emulsion and oil sprays to halt migration. State Entomologist Dr Carl J Drake and Extension Service run meetings to demonstrate control methods and joint efforts may secure reduced material costs through oil companies. Local notes include births and visits in Atlantic and area towns as well as pastor changes with Rev Patrick R O'Donnell moving to Missouri Valley and Massena's pastorate unsettled.
