Lausers to Sell Hardware Stock Saturday

George Lauser announces he will manage a theatre for the Central States Circuit soon. An auction is set for Saturday at Anita Hardware Store selling a 14500 dollar stock and fixtures. The Anita theatre closes after Saturday night’s show. William Proctor of Knoxville says it will reopen in a couple weeks under new management.

Ten Anita Students to Sing at Extra Centennial Pageant

First Summer Concert Rehearsal Scheduled Tonight

The Adita school music department announces a special band rehearsal for tonight June 6 at 8 o'clock led by director Richard Huff. The band aims to condition for summer concerts on Thursday evenings at 8 and hopes to perform weekly starting next week. All band students and recent graduates’ adults may attend.

Sadie Hawking Fundraiser Beats $800 for New Unit

Sadie Hawking led a community drive as Mal Dunn's orchestra played on the Recreation platform Tuesday night. Three hundred five tickets sold netting about $140, plus $700 jeep fund contributions earlier, cutting the year's debt by about $200. A brief sprinkle interrupted the event at 1:35, but the platform was dry by 11:50 and the dance ended.

Omaha Man Accepts Call to Serve Two Churches Here

Duane Dodsons accepted a call to become pastor of the Anita Community Bible Church and the North Massena Baptist church. He will move his family to the parsonage in July after supplying here for several Sundays. He recently graduated from Bible Institute in Ontario and plans to remain in Omaha a few weeks to finish work before a vacation. The Dodsons have twin boys aged eight and a daughter twelve.

Anita's 7 Rain Sets Record and Flood Devastation

Frank Hartsort of Des Moines owns the Anita emergency Jeep and is the Rock Island mail driver on sick leave now. Anita endured a seven inch rainstorm with a wall of water flooding Walnut Street and nearby businesses, forcing evacuations and causing scattered damage across Anita, Atlantic, Adair, Wiota, and surrounding routes.

Red Cross faces shortfall in Cass county funds

Anita must raise 52.77 dollars to meet its Cass county Red Cross quota amid a county deficit of over 2000 dollars. Shortfall could cancel the July swimming program and threaten the blood bank. With 7,716.85 raised of 10,000, the drive risks reducing vital disaster relief and water safety for Cass county youth. Emergency Trip to Atlantic in Storm For Mrs Roots

Mrs. John Roots was rushed by the Anita emergency unit to Atlantic Memorial hospital around 5 30 p m Wednesday afternoon as flood waters prevented highway use. She suffered a heart attack at home during the flood. her condition is now satisfactory. Patrols monitored the jeep from Anila to Atlantic and relayed details to highway units in route.

Memorial Day Registration Draws 200 Plus Here

Anita hosted Memorial Way visitors last Thursday with 203 registering at the Legion hall open house after cemetery services. Congregational church served 200 at a new meal as memorial day activities drew many locals and out of state guests from Chicago to California amid cloudy showers and lingering mud.
