Fire at Postmaster Newton Home Sparks Bible School Pageant

Quick action by Postmaster Ed L Newton and neighbor Chas E Campbell averted a larger blaze on East Main Street when a gasoline stove reignited and was tossed into the yard. Smoke damaged the kitchen but repainting and papering were needed. A Community Vacation Bible School pageant of six episodes will be held Sunday at 8:00 pm at the Church of Christ with over seventy five participants and an offertory to support school expenses.

Council Seeks State Resurfacing of East Main St Anita

At Monday's meeting the town council unanimously passed a resolution asking the state highway commission to resurface East Main Street in Anita from Locust Street to the corporation line. The brick pavement is rough and unsafe for travel, and the street is part of highway No. 6. The resolution will be sent to the state highway commission in Ames for consideration.

The Anita rainfall record shows 4.92 inches for May with rain spread over 14 days and no damage from washouts. Through May total since January reached 8.66 inches, while early June added 0.94 inches to bring the year to 9.60 inches.

Rural Carrier Changes in Anita and Hastings Iowa Area

Under postal law retirement and transfers shift rural routes. Richard Henderson of Anita Route 1 retires June 30 1935 after 30 years. Frank R. Mitchell moves Hastings to Anita Route 1 at 2300 yearly. consolidates a 54.6 mile route from 20 miles and gains 680 annually. Route 2 becomes all year 67.8 mile consolidation at 2360 with Harry Dressler. auxiliary winter service ends. Bryan Parker had served as auxiliary carrier the past winter.

At a meeting of the Anita Independent School District board of directors on Monday evening, Dr G M Adair was elected to fill the vacancy left by the deceased Dr F L E Campbell.
