Firemen Benefit Dance Set For Anita Center Next Tuesday

Anita volunteer firefighters sponsor a benefit dance at the Anita recreation park with Eddie Allen’s 10 piece band to raise over 500 dollars for the Sadie Hawkins fund. Tickets accompany each dollar donation. the department highlights equipment value and ongoing upgrades while stressing service over ticket distribution.

Awards Given At Ahs Last Friday

At a special assembly Friday morning Jetters pins and other awards were given at AHS for outstanding work during the year. Principal Charles Salmon supervised the meeting with Harley McDaniel assisting. Mrs. Ruby McDermott presented G A A awards, Mrs. Henneberg dramatics, and others for Marilyn Robison cheerleaders, Leland Eloe baton twirlers, Tait football and track, Bashall and basketball, and Salmon for careful driving science and perfect attendance. State pins for earning 1000 points were awarded to Leona Gissible Maria Larsen Margaret Arnett Rosemary Pearson and Janet Jewett. G A A letter awards for 500 points went to Colleen Whetstone Karen Turner Sharon Parkinson Naomi Jensen Norma Miller Barbara Reynolds Peggy Ticknor Phyllis Carlsen Sharon Kirkham Dolores Uhlman Jerene Hughes Kay Miller Janelle Bailey Sherrill Morgan Lillian Phillips Hazel Davis Patty Bailey. Anita Stores Extend Tuesday Evening Hours

Starting next Tuesday evening June 7, Anita stores will mostly stay open until 9 o'clock on Tuesdays for the rest of the summer. The hours target Tuesday evenings, signaling a shift in late shopping time.

Promoted Bill Scholl Named Manager of New Leed’s Store

Bill Scholl son of Mr and Mrs Lester Scholl from Anita Iowa has been chosen manager of Leed’s newest store in North Hollywood California. He rose from farm boy to store leader through service in four Leed’s outlets and five years in the Army. He previously helped boost sales at Leed’s Hollywood and Van Nuys before taking on an assistant managerial post in Albuquerque.

Cass Kids Fish Day at Russell Hines Ponds

The Cass County Conservation Club hosts its seventh annual Kids Fish Day at the Russell Hines ponds one mile north of Cumberland on County B road. About 2500 bullheads will be stocked by the state commission. 2000 children attended last year, and 2000 is expected again. Rods are not allowed. free admission with children bringing only a fishing pole.

Diploma Awards Given to 35 Anita Students Last Week

Thirty five Anita eighth graders became next year’s freshmen during last week’s commencement at the high school gym. Charles Salmon, the principal, awarded diplomas to graduates including Dan Michael Brownsberger, Barry Burke, Melanie Chadwick, Clair Chadwick, Gary Christensen, Jack Davis, Patricia Deeming, Cecil Denney, Ella Dorsey, Joann Dorsey, Mary Dorsey, Judith Exline, Hans Johnson, Kay Johnson, David Kelly, Donna Kramer, Janice Larsen, Judy Lauser, Connie Maas, Robert Matthews, William McLuen, Lois Mikkelsen, Patricia Miller, Carla Moore, Vera Nelson, Jane Parker, Kendall Peterson, Brent Ray, Charlotte Reed, Meredith Steele, Barbara Symonds, David Strickland, Leonard Theulen, Ann Wiemann, and James Waters. The Tribune also corrects last week’s county board meeting name error. Russell Marshall is the Cass County board member from Lewis.

W F Kirkham of north of Anita died at his home Tuesday evening at 11 20 following a lingering illness. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Tribune press time yesterday.

Cass County Peace Officers School Set for Atlan tic

The third annual Cass county peace officers school will be held in Atlantic Thursday from 9 to 5 at the courthouse. Sponsored by Cass Sheriff Ken Jones and Deputy Sheriff Ben Maiti. Topics include road blocks tear gas and field safety. Open to the public.

Russell Morgan Named Temporary Postmaster in Anita

Russell Morgan took office yesterday morning as temporary postmaster in Anita succeeding George Smither. Morgan, Cass County native and former naval aviator, has lived near Anita and been active in community affairs. Civil service exams will be set later for the permanent postmaster position.

The Anita high school alumni elected Mrs Harold Smith president for the coming year at a Friday banquet in the high school gym. Art Duff served as master of ceremonies with 250 guests from nine states and 20 towns attending.

Memorial Day Services At Anita Evergreen Draw Large

Memorial Day services Monday at Anita Evergreen cemetery drew a large attendance. Rev. F G Barnes delivered the address and the Gettysburg Address was read by Duane Kline. Flanders Field was sung by Wanda Lou Wilson Naomi Jensen and Karen Turner. The AHS band performed under Le land Bloe. Over 200 attended open house at the Legion Hall with 198 signing the guest book. Fishing Clinic Set at Cold Springs Next Wednesday

Two fishing experts and two state conservation biologists will host a clinic at Cold Springs on June 8 starting at 6:30 PM. Participants will learn fly and bait casting in six person groups and are asked to bring their own gear.

Mel Hansen to Speak at Wiota Dairy Banquet

Omaha radio and TV farm reporter Mel Hansen will speak at the Wiota dairy banquet on June 9 at the Wiota school gym. Tickets are limited to 300 and available from listed local organizers and at the Atlantic extension office. Proceeds go to the school music program. the event is sponsored by the Wiota band mothers.
