Shotgun accident claims Viola farmer Hans Christensen
A 33 year old Viola farmer Hans P Christensen died July 10 near Audubon after a loaded shotgun discharged while he attempted to shoot a squirrel. The incident occurred on his farm as he stumbled and the gun fired into his chest. Neighbors later helped in the wake, and a community oat combining gesture followed.

U S Highway Work Ends On 22.7 Mile Patch Project
The Stuart Herald notes the 22.7 mile U S highway 6 patching and asphalting project from Dexy to Adair was scheduled to finish last weekend. It used 37 500 tons of new asphalt and cost the state 336 124 09 dollars, about 14 900 per mile. The mix comprises 40 percent three fourths jsoy rock 25 percent cracked limestone 25 percent gravel and 25 percent fine sand with an asphalt binder, laid in two and a half inch layers.

Air Tour Draws 135 Amid Rough Weather
In windy conditions, 135 people joined this year’s soil conservation air tour. The planned airplane spraying demonstration was canceled due to strong winds. Attendees, many first timers, noted in county erosion gullying seen on their farms. In Audubon county, the Memorial hospital grand opening is set for August 31, announced by administrator Duane Johnson. The Sunday opening comes 18 months after construction began as workers move in furniture and equipment.
