The County Conference Board of Cass County Iowa will meet August 5 1957 at 10 A.M. in the Cass County Courthouse to hear taxpayers on the estimated expenditures for the fiscal year starting January 1 1958. Joseph T Shubert Clerk County Conference Board.
The Board of Supervisors met by adjournment with members present. Cash counts as of June 29 1957 and May 31 1957 were reported and approved. Wilson Concrete Co contract and bonds for pipe purchases were approved. Various business licenses and Class C Beer permits were considered and approved. Weed Commissioner reports examined and approved.
Local church listings show Masses at St Marys and Viota, plus services at Congregational, Community Bible, North Massena Baptist, Church of Christ Mayo Proctor, and Holy Cross Lutheran. In addition, county board actions include budget transfers, settlements, and a gravel district refund authorization.
In eastern Iowa a first class mill cow sold for 15 dollars a head. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Lattig welcomed a baby boy in Lincoln township. J. C. Voorhees added screen doors to his hardware store. J. W. Brickley’s restaurant offered a square meal for a quarter near Stone’s grocery. H. Hazlett leaves Tribune for Traer to start a Democrat newspaper, the Traer News. J. A. Barr, ex-Republican, joins the Tribune edited by Sherman M. Myers.
On July 22 1897 Mr and Mrs Don Fish welcomed a baby girl. Miss Avis Petty attended Atlantic Business College. E A Stone sold queensware glassware woodenware lamps and groceries. The name Globe Democrat was added to the Council Bluffs Globe. Myers and Richardson edited and published the Anita Tribune.
Anita residents report July 25 1907 that Anita defeated Stuart 7 0 in baseball. Sunday livery traffic was strong with rigs from three barns active. Roy Eneix Mrs Roy Eneix Guy Lattig and Miss Mittie Crawford visited Omaha last week. Harry C Faulkner bought the residence on Whites Avenue from Dilt. Sherman F Myers edited the Triline and served as postmaster.
Recently married Grace May Mickel and Earl C. Caddock were joined by Rev. H. J. Wilkins in Anita. An AELS Class of 1915 reunion brought eight members together including Avis Petit and Roscoe Wagner. Clyde H. Bowen advertised a Peacock bird for sale. Robert W. Swick led Anita M. E. Church pastorate and Walter F. Budd edited the Anita Tribune.
Thirty years ago Ed M Blakesley and family planned a move to Carroll where he held a tax related job. Harold Wahlert welcomed a baby boy. Charles E Budd and son Leroy of Grinnell visited H W Budd and relatives in Anita. Briardale Store sold coffee at 39 a pound. Jewatt's Cash Grocery offered Blue Ribbon malt.

Twenty years ago the Anita Literary Club, longtime library sponsor, turned its collection of about 4000 volumes over to the town of Anita with Mrs. Cora Stuadt as librarian. The Autkey family and friends visited relatives, while Mrs. Nichols and others near Storm Lake spent time with kin. Budd led the Anita Tribune as editor.
Ten years ago Dr and Mrs P J Williams planned a vacation trip. Anita had a dentist appointment. Maduff's Market showed tay pasteurized milk and genized products. The Anita Theatre showed the film Margie with Jos Crain. Paul R Brown edited the Anita Tribune, with Joel N Boone and George Wise among local pastors and church leaders.
July 24 1952 mentions Anita Sales Barn nearing completion. Matthews Rexall Drug Store advertises paint shop items. Phil's Super Market lists 73c per pound for sugar and oleo. Local pastors and Tribune staff changes are noted with Betty Littler's move to El Paso to join husband Pvt Robert P Little.
A 1956 Anita CommunitySch board planned an open house for a proposed sew scha building. Married couples included Shi Jensen and L Frangella. Ground beef and other prices appeared, with recall of local settler Araminia Bot Bartlett and notes from Anita Tribune editors Margaret and David Ashe.
