Oriskany and Blue Licks Battle Parallels in Revolution Era Frontiers
A semiannual feature recalls Oriskany 1777 and Blue Licks 1782, two frontier clashes shaped by bold leaders and rash acts. The Oriskany action near Ft Schuyler held by Gen Herkimer, brigades from Tryon county, and Sir John Johnson's force ended in a hard won victory that saved Ft Schuyler and halted St Leger. Blue Licks in Kentucky saw Col Todd Trigg Boone lead and lose against Canadians and Indians, with heavy Kentucky casualties and a warning on frontier discipline.
