Fire Destroys Wicta Plant Battery Station Sparks Power Loss

Thirty years ago on July 13, 1922 a fire wiped out the battery station at the Wicta power plant leaving the town without lights for a period. Electricians aimed to run the generator and restore service while Cedar Rapids firm Iowa Electrics planned to extend service from Anita within sixty days. Dr W R Kobb of Brayton suffered eye injuries when a steel fragment from a hoe blade struck him. B D Forshay sold his north Anita home to C E Faulkner. Concert Park opened to the public with Angel's Comedians in a big tent theatre under Anita Concert Band auspices and the park’s concessions did brisk business. Chevrolet advertised the Utility Coupe priced at 720 0 b.

Charles Young, 54, of Lewis dies from a hay rack accident at Guy Tingle farm southwest of Atlantic. Mrs. Jennie Miller visits from Laramie with her two sons. C. W. Garlock buys 40 acre farm south of Des Moines. Anita baseball loses to Dexter 14 to 9. Scott backs pitchers for Anita. Stores advertise pork and beans five for 25 cents, sugar 10 tablespoons for 40 cents, coffee 18 cents a pound, Idaho potatoes per bushel.
