Anita Remembers Key Local Events From 1962
A year ago July 5 1962 Darrell Scarlett 15 and Patricia Meyer died in a northeast Atlantic one car crash. Mr and Mrs August Crow observed their 60th wedding anniversary. Donna Peterson and Bill Shultz wed June 24 at Sergeant Bluffs. Tom Salmon and Beverly Ann Wardhmin married June 17. Elroy Gertner and Wallis Kay Winter wed in Minnesota June 10. Last rites were held for Cal Darrow 68 longtime Anita businessman and mayor for 10 years. Mr and Mrs Mads Marcussen two flood victims buried at Anita Evergreen cemetery after services in Extra. Jean McElroy and Francis Vais engagement announced with an October wedding planned.

Tornado devastates Adair county area near Anita
Ten years ago on July 2 1953 a tornado east of Anita tore a four mile long by two hundred foot wide strip of Adair county farmland. Mrs Walter McMurphy was killed and Mr McMurphy was blown from his car. Leroy Betts injured slightly and others sought shelter in a storm cellar. Farms suffered major losses. neighbors rallied as a washing machine struck Betts in the head and the house was carried away. The note also recalls a 1951 photo feature of local pantomime actors, and reports on passings and community incidents including scout boat projects and a post office break-in in Wiota.
