Charles G. Dawes, comptroller of the currency, has tendered resignation to take effect October 1 to allow time for a campaign in Illinois for the United States Senate. His term would have expired January 1, 1908.
Leander Rowing Club loses to the University of Pennsylvania by a length in the grand challenge cup final at Henley. The race faced bright sun and cross winds with both crews showing early nerves before Penn led at Temple Island and held on to win in 7:04.4. Coach Ellis Ward praised the Pennsylvanians while noting Leander outrowed at key moments in the later stages.

Otto Mueller of Elk Creek Neb was attempting to open a beer bottle when the cork pushed in and the bottle exploded. A shard of cork pierced his leg and severed an artery. He bled to death about thirty minutes before Dr Roh arrived from Ik Creek to render aid.
