Cass Political Conventions Held Friday Morning

Cass Republicans and Democrats met Friday morning in Atlantic to name delegates for three forthcoming conventions. Republican leaders elected Glynt Warren as county chairman and Mrs. John Dewitt as vice chair. Roscoe Jones gave the keynote. Democrats reelected Tom Afflney as county chairman and chose Mrs. Cecil Malone ria as vice chair. G. G. Jack named No. 1 delegate to the state convention.

Graveside services for Mrs Elinor Reynolds

Graveside services were held at 12 30 PM Monday at Anita Evergreen cemetery for Mrs Elinor Reynolds of Kansas City Missouri. She was not a community resident but was mother of E F Reynolds of Kansas City, husband of June Karns Reynolds formerly of Anita, and the burial was on their lot in the local cemetery.

Local News Move to Grand Junction and History Trip Stops

The Coryell Bell family has left Chestnut street’s Car Reed house for Grand Junction to operate a clearing establishment. Anita will be a stop on a Drake University history trip July 13 visiting underground railroad stations and the site of Iowa’s first train robbery between Anita and Adair. Mrs. Martin Larsen injured Sunday in a basement fall was treated at Atlantic Memorial hospital and expected home Tuesday. Mrs. Melvin C. Snyder of Lake View and daughters visited the Wohlleber and Slater households for dinner.

Grandson Wins $500 Scholarship for Omaha University

Mrs. William T. Slater reports her grandson Robert Charles Kelly has earned a $500 scholarship. He is enrolled in Omaha University for the upcoming fall term. Local Groups Win Top Honors In Circus Parade

Anita Knights of Pythias and Pythian star led parade with first prize for a long eight block float. Lutheran Laymen's League took second, American Legion and Auxiliary third. Small fry winners included Debbie Eddy as Miss America of 1968, Ronnie Kelly with a dog in a bicycle basket, Carroll Hornbuckle and Tommy Reed as a bicycle team, and the Arthur Dags children in Duff's Wigan tied for third. About 40 floats and 40 bicycle entries plus bands, clubs, baton twirlers, and animal acts showcased in Anita.

Griffith Acquitted of Charge of Violating Driver Restrictions

Griffith was acquitted Wednesday of a charge that he violated driver license restrictions after a hearing at the Atlantic courthouse. Patrol officers alleged night driving after an accident near Anita on January 26 that injured two Grinnell students, but Judge Harold DeKay found no evidence of post dusk operation since sunset that day was 5 23.

Final Rites for Mrs M Huddleston at Wiota

Funeral services were held for Laura Stella Huddleston 74 wife of Mike Munelleson of Wiota after she died Friday at Atlantic Memorial hospital following a stroke. A native of Indiana she had lived in Cass county since 1911. She was a Masena Baptist church member. Surviving are the husband three daughters Mrs Jorgensen of Extra Mrs Kief of Omaha and Mrs Murphy of Wiota four sons Samuel Floyd Wye Murl and Luther two sisters one brother 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial was at Massena Center cemetery.

Winners of Free Draws Highlight Weekend Circus Fun

Over a hundred participants registered for two free drawings at Chapmans Texaco and Anita Auction Barns. Winners at Chapmans included Maurice Shannon first and George Scarlett fifth among five prize recipients for gas, oil, and grease jobs. Anita Barns prize went to George Weiland with cash choice. ten others won one dollar each. About 180 to 200 people registered in total.

Lincolnettes held a local camp from Tuesday noon to Wednesday afternoon at Sunnyside Park in Atlantic. Members attended with Mrs. Leslie Carothers, Mr. Kermit Bailey, Mrs. Lyle Scholl, Mrs. Melvin Gissible, and Mrs. Howard Borth. They cooked outdoors, enjoyed a swimming party, made flower corsages, played games, and held a Sunday picnic at the Elmer Fries home honoring Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnson and daughters from Little Falls, with many guests from nearby communities and surrounding towns attending including Pratt, Madsen, Nielsen, Holland, and others.

Burke Heads New Reorganized District School Board

Gail Burke elected president of the new district board at the first official meeting held at the schoolhouse. Ralph Morrow administered the oath. Ben McLuen named treasurer. Balloting This Week in Cass Townships

Voting is underway this week on Cass ASC township committeeman with ballots due at the Atlantic courtly office by Friday July 13. Ballots will be counted July 17. Each township will elect a committeeman and a delegate and alternate to the county convention on July 28 in Atlantic. Delegates will elect the county committee for the coming year.

Miller daughter Pat wins poem publication honor

Pat Miller, daughter of Mrs. Katherine Miller, has been selected for publication in Songs of Youth after her poem Rain appeared in an annual high school poetry anthology. The Millers moved from Anita to Red Oak. Pat wrote the poem last year as a freshman at Anita High School under teacher Hele Dressler.

Ehrman Family Hosts Birthday Picnic in Benton Township

Mr and Mrs Fred Ehrman Jr entertained at a June 27 picnic supper for their son Robert s second birthday with gifts and friends including Leslie Dorsey Melvyn Marleen Dick Carol Dorsey Atlantic Dale Schaaf and Fred Ehrman Sr The gathering also marked birthdays for Fred Ehrman Sr and Dale Schaaf Meanwhile Russell Eden and wife visited Omaha to see Bertha Eden who underwent major surgery at Clarkson hospital and is recovering well.

Reception for Newlyweds Simon Smith and Bride Near Anita

A reception at the Guy Smith home northwest of Anita honored newlyweds Mr and Mrs Simon Smith. About fifty relatives and friends attended. Mrs John C Bell sister of the groom hosted the guest book. Refreshments were served from a tea table. Mrs Everett Morgan of Council Bluffs cut the cake. Mrs Everett Prewitt of Council Bluffs poured coffee and Lon Dunn of Council Bluffs poured punch.
