Long Time Cass County Resident Dies in Atlantic
Mrs. Caroline C Lund Smith a longtime Cass County resident died suddenly Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from heart trouble at 411 Locust Street Atlantic where she and her daughter Miss Vena Smith lived. She was born May 10 1855 in North Schleswig Germany came to America in 1876 settled near Anita Iowa and later moved to Atlantic Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Locust Street home with Rev. Ross Williams of the Church of Christ officiating Burial followed in Highland Cemetery north of Anita She is survived by seven children including Charles Smith Mrs Fred Waterbury Los Angeles CA Miss Vena Smith Atlantic Guy Robert C P Smith and Mrs Anna Darrow all of Anita The article also notes local political convention results and committee elections in Cass County.

Postal rate changes take effect across mail types
The new rates cut postage for post cards to 1 cent for all except government cards and raise parcel post charges for weights over one pound. Air mail pricing drops to 4 cents for one ounce or less and 10 cents per addl ounce for heavier letters, with stamps marked for air use optional. The changes apply to all post offices and include train transport to air points, plus a 25 cent special delivery for heavier parcel mail. Cass county supervisors awarded contracts totaling about 340000 for earth excavation culverts and three steel span bridges. F C Aikin Construction of Atlantic won 26990 for 26 culverts plus extra concrete at 30 per cubic yard. Standard Bridge of Omaha secured the bridge work at 14720 per three spans. Yant Construction of Omaha landed 8788.64 for 46000 cubic yards of earth excavation plus 1 50 per yard for loose rock. Work area includes roads north of Wiota and areas near Massena Anita and Griswold.
