Legion Auxiliary Holds Monthly Meeting and Appoints Delegates

The American Legion Auxiliary met Friday at Legion Hall Keating opened the session with reports from the secretary on the Cumberland county meeting. Members approved a $5 Salvation Army drive donation and appointed Mrs James Reed as convention delegate to Des Moines in August. Officers elected for the coming year include Mrs James Reed president and Mrs Fred Wohlleber first vice president.

Tele classes begin at Highland School this week

Tele classes started Monday at Highland School with Miss Flaine Crooks and Miss Mar lia Meiser guiding sessions. Classes run Monday to Friday 9 to 11 a.m. for two weeks, with a Friday evening program on July 12 to close the session.

Veterans Office Moves to Forty Hour Week Schedule

The Veterans Administration Contact Office in Atlantic Iowa switches to a forty hour work week from July 1 1946, operating Monday through Friday. T. O. Club Meets Mrs Suplee Hosts Ladies

The T. O. Club met last Thursday with eight members and eight visitors. Mrs. Goldie Wilson won the door prize and Mrs. C. E. Parker the contest prize. Lunch was served then Mr. and Mrs. Salmon and Mrs. Newton traveled to Excelsior Springs to visit their father and husband, B. D. Newton, who was reported improving.

Free Swimming Lessons For 75 Children In Cass County

Seventy five children from Anita and Wiota ride the Daisy Trolleybus to Sunnyside Park Atlantic for free swimming lessons sponsored by the Cass County Red Cross chapter. Mrs Tom Burrs and Mrs Reed accompany the groups. Bus departs Anita Concert Park at 10 15 and returns about 1 pm on Monday Wednesday and Friday. Red Cross seeks extra cars and will pay five cents per mile for transportation.

Mrs Weimer Pearson Re-elected Red Cross Chairman

Mrs Weimer Pearson was re elected chairman of the Red Cross of Anita at the annual meeting held last Wednesday evening. E I Newton was re elected vice chairman Miss Ermine Brown secretary and W Biggs treasurer were also re elected. The officers thank everyone who helped the Red Cross in the past year.

State Fair Rodeo Returns to Towa Centennial Program

The annual State Fair Rodeo will be a main feature of the Towa Centennial State Fair this summer, headlining three afternoon shows on August 26 27 and 28. Events include bronc busting bulldogging trick riding roping steer riding and more with top cowboys expected to participate. The rodeo shares the program with harness and running races in a double feature format on the fair dirt track. Secretary L Cunningham notes the concept drew crowds at the last pre war fair and is repeated this season.

Cass County Community Sing at Sunnyshie Park

Extensive preparations are underway at Sunnyshie Park near Atlantic for the Cass County Community Sing to be held Wednesday evening July 10 at 7:30. The amphitheatre floor and stage are being arranged to welcome several hundred attendees as the audience joins in a program of old favorites hymns rounds and popular songs. The event features a no admission fee and promises an evening of violin enjoyment for all participants.

WBC Circle Holds All Day Methodist Meeting

Mrs. Della King hosted an all day W. B. G. Circle of the Methodist Church at her home. Over twenty ladies attended a covered dish dinner at 12:30. The day was spent making mats for an upcoming bazaar to be held in the hall.

Wedding Ends Memoir of Betty Jane Meyer to Thomas Reeves

The July 30 ceremony at the Meyers home south of Anita united Betty Jane Meyer and Thomas A. Reeves in a double ring wedding conducted by Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Attendants included matron of honor Kepneth Meyer and best man Kenneth Meyer. The couple planned a Des Moines home and a two weeks honeymoon to Minnesota Wisconsin and Canada before settling in Des Moines.

Lew Martin Replaced As District Engineer In Anita

Lewis M. Martin longtime district engineer since 1927 is replaced by John Butter assistant engineer. Martin remains District Engineer in Council Bluffs unassigned. He is a Avoca native who moved to Anita as a boy and studied at Anita schools. He served in World War I as a Captain of Engineers and held state board of engineer examiner duties.
