Well Known Cass County Farmer Dies at 72

James M. Giles a farmer from near Wiota Cass County for 36 years died Saturday at Atlantic hospital after three weeks illness due to heart trouble. Born March 1 1853 in Franklin Indiana he married Sara Catherine Hines July 4 1881. Surviving are widow three daughters a son and twelve grandchildren with relatives in Casey Huron Massena Amite Louisiana Reece Kansas and Rock Island Illinois. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Roland Peacock Baxter funeral home Atlantic with burial in Atlantic cemetery.

Gas Tax In Iowa Rises By Over Half Million

Des Moines reports that the state gasoline tax revenue for the year ending June 30 reached 9,224,829.76 dollars, up from 8,681,893.27 last year, a gain of 542,936.49. Through six months of 1929, collections totaled 4,102,993.85, while refunds under the tax rose to 56,287.61 in May and 102,845.56 in June. Cigarette revenue closed at 1,247,997.12, up 149,204.75, with May and June the highest months since 1921. Inheritance taxes for the year were 1,129,940.30, and six months total 624,078.44.

Gobblers Knob Resort Opens At Adair In Summer Season

Adair July 3 A J Menefee opened his resort Gobblers Knob for the season drawing more than 1 000 pleasure seekers. Bill Kelso s Blues orchestra played both afternoon and evening while a Gobblers Knob Fontanelle baseball game drew crowds. The new cement bottom slides and pool buildings attract many cooling off from the heat in the grove with picnics and daily summer hours announced.
