Grass Fire Calls Keep Anita Volunteers Busy
Anita Volunteer Firemen battled three grass fires in one week. On Tuesday afternoon June 22 they fought a blaze west of Anita near the Anita Livestock Auction Barn along the Rock Island right of way and then assisted Adair crews east of Anita near the Jesse James monument. Friday night after midnight another grass fire occurred east of town near the Kelloway farm along the Rock Island right of way. investigators believe passing freight trains started the fires.

Rites Held for Mrs Earl Stone 77 in Anita Nebraska
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Earl Stone 77 of California at Long Funeral Home in Anita with George Heuss officiating. Interment followed at Anita Evergreen Cemetery. Stone’s daughter Anne Marie, born 1899, taught in Lincoln township and Lewis area before moving to California. Survived by four daughters and three sons, 22 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several siblings and relatives.
