Firemen Burn Anita Area Practice Home
The former Norman Gundy farm house near Anita was used for a practice drill by Anita Volunteer Firemen, then burned. Pete Kelloway, owner of Bridle Bit Ranch, previously owned the farm. The town’s Community Celebration is planned for July 26 and 27 with a chicken barbecue, horse show, dances, and a teen event, plus a kids’ afternoon and various contests. Larry Behnken and family moved to St Peters Missouri, storing belongings until moving into their new home.

Last Rites Today for Mrs Dill
Funeral services for 83 year old Mrs Emma Dill will be held Thursday at 2 p m at Long funeral home. The Rev Carroll Robinson will officiate with Sidney Larsen joined by choir in singing In the Garden and Going Down the Valley. Interment will be Anita Evergreen cemetery. Mrs Dill was born March 9 1882 near Anita, married to John Dill in 1898, farmed in Lincoln township until 1934, later moved to Anita. Survived by three children, a daughter Winifred Brown of Anita, sons Clayton of Adair and J Merritt of Minneapolis, a brother and sister, and several relatives. Her husband preceded her in death in 1962. A rabies scare follows a cat bite on June 23 for Gaylen Walters. anti rabies shots begun.

Two Anita boys entered the Soap Box Derby to be held Sunday July 4 in Atlantic at 2 30 p m starting Sixth and Chestnut. Competitors are David Weatherwax 12 and Robert Scholl year old, built their own racers under local and national rules. This marks Anita's first derby entry since 1947 when Im Melntrye won the county crown. The Atlantic winner advances to the national Soap Box Derby finals in Des Moines later this summer. Derby officials expect the entry list to grow fast.

Two hundred ten Anita Wiota children are among 456 youths from Cumberland Massena Lewis Anita and Wiota taking Red Cross swimming lessons at the Atlantic pool this summer. Handicapped class has 15, Anita 14 Massena 76 Cumberland 75 Lewis 70 Viota 16. Lessons run through July 10 with July 3 off.
