Iowa totals show 216876 employees and 214309000 in payrolls. A Chevrolet coupe owned by Leon Wheatley was damaged when he lost control near Anita. the car overturned, Mrs Wheatley injured mildly. John Calvin Livingston 87 longtime Cass county resident died at 1 30 PM Tuesday at his daughter’s home in Anita He was born in Newcastle Pennsylvania Aug 10 1850 moved to Iowa at 19 settled near Lewis Cass county in 1873 He married Alice Conrad in 1876 They had four children Lew Atlantic Ethel Lewis Mary Lowden and Hugh Anita Survived by one brother Elmer Livingston Newell SD eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren He served as Lewis mayor eight years and belonged to the Church of Christ Funeral plans were not yet set but services and burial were expected in Lewis

1937 Poll Tax in Rural Districts Must Be Collected
Attorney General opinion maintains the 1937 Rural Poll Tax was due January 1 1937 and remains collectible despite repeal of the rural poll tax law by Senate File No 21. Judge sentences eight Atlantic Anita youths in string of robberies
In Cass county district court Judge Grover Brown sentenced or released eight boys from Atlantic and Anita for participating in a wave of twenty eight robberies. Raymond Johnson and John Wilburn got five years each at Eldora's industrial training school with bench paroles to follow. Manley Walling Gerald Dean and George Vale drew five years at hard labor in Anamosa. Kenneth Johnston pleaded not guilty and remains jailed on 3 000 bond awaiting September trial. Peter Clark had parole revoked and will stay at Eldora until age 21. Arthur Lett had charges dropped and was released. The judge lectured the youths on societal rules and warned others against crime.

Tearing Up Old Pavement on East Main St in Anita
Workmen are busy this week tearing out the old brick pavement on East Main Street from Elm Street east to Evergreen cemetery. The street will be resurfaced with concrete and detours are in place on No. 6. Dusty conditions irritate motorists and the operation will take about six weeks to finish. Also working on the south half of a nearby bridge. Weimer Pearson recovering after major operation at Jones hospital in Atlantic last Thursday.
