Anita Municipal Utilities board met in regular session with Chair Wilbur Matthews and trustees McLuen Eddy and Supt Elerschel McCaskey present. New business covered contract with Towar Electric Light Power with no changes. Transfers to sinking funds approved and bills paid. Ed Brownsberger Jr. hired as of Jan 1 1958.

St Marys and Viota churches list Sunday mass times 10 A M and 8 30 A M as well as Methodist Church services. Anita Tribune quartet to join forthcoming political campaign

The Anita Tribune notes the famed quartet likely to participate in the upcoming political campaign. G. W. Lattig & Co. advertised ready-made clothing from $6 to $18 and made-to-order suits from $13 to $50. Miss Virginia Boatright spent Sunday with George and family at Stuart. Sherman F. Anita Council Bans German and Austrian Conversation

Forty years ago on January 31 1918 the Anita Council of Defense decreed that no conversation should be carried on on the streets or over the telephone in German or the Austrian language. The issue reflects wartime restrictions in the town.

Krasne's sold pork neckbones at two pounds for a quarter and Briardale offered pork roasts at 38 cents a pound. Fr Joseph A Devlin led St Mary's and Mayo Proctor edited the Anita Tribune with Margaret and David Ash.

Long Ago Tale of Anita Tornado and Pioneer Family

A 2:00 am tornado near Anita in Audubon County destroys the Parker home. Mrs Emeline Parker and daughter Laura die. Stella Parker, age 6, is scratched but alive. Theodore Parker and eight oxen were nearby. the storm's impact is recalled in local reminiscences and reader contributions.
