Duane Dodson is pastor at North Massena Baptist Church with morning service at 9 30 and Sunday school at 10 30. Thursday night prayer meeting starts at 7 30 p.m.
Church activities include a Lesson-Sermon titled Truth based on Matthew 9 35 and services at 10 and 11. The Wesleyan Service Guild hosts the Woman's Society and Circle II Thursday at 8 00. A Church Building Committee meeting is set for Friday 7 30 in Fellowship Hall. February study course on Mark's Gospel runs Fridays 1 30 3 30. Fellowship supper and Denmark Germany travel photos planned. Members urged to renew Together magazine and register for February courses and events.

Supt Glen C Hornbuckle releases per pupil cost figures for Anita schools to compare with Des Moines Register data on costly Iowa districts. Town elementary enrollment 309 rural 133 high school 185 total 627. elementary cost 242.10 and high school 426.36 per pupil, total 174,841.90.
A Cass County public notice details a January 20 1958 bid for creosoted pine trestle piling common Douglas fir lumber and creosoted Douglas fir bridge lumber. The message includes a personal letter about Anita, hospital recovery and a reunion with Stem Newton, plus a closing remark on bids and materials.
Sealed bids are due February 19 1958 at 1 30 PM in Atlantic Iowa for county construction projects. A certified check payable to the County Auditor is required as liquidated damages if the bid is not executed and bonded within fifteen days of bid acceptance. Plans and forms available from the County Auditor office with reservations not provided for in the forms may be rejected. Bidders must be on the Iowa State Highway Commission list of qualified bidders.

Southwest Iowa educators gathered in Council Bluffs to discuss topics to be studied by the Iowa State Education Association’s Delegate Assembly in Des Moines next month. Delegates including Cass County's Glen C. Hornbuckte reviewed state and federal schooling legislation and NEA alignment.
Anita remembers Blakesley buying Engleman stock and a Johnson building upgrade. Obituaries and births show Roots twins turning fourteen, Duff and Nelson babies, Groom in Pagosa Springs, and editors Myers and Brown shaping local coverage. Fifty years ago the Hansen Sage Nieman Co planned a major sacrifice sale at the Regulator with front page coverage in the Tribune. The ad offered two pounds of coffee for 35 cents or 40 and novel oranges 20 cents a dozen. Mrs Della Winder returned from Clarinda after visiting her father. The Tribune printed six sale bill sets. D C Kellogg continued carpet weaving. Bruce and Ziegler lawyers were in the Citizens Bank building. Sherman F Myers was editor and Ed L Richardson managed the paper as Anita was at high tide.
Forty years ago Mr and Mrs Sanmet C Turner celebrated their golden wedding in Anita marked by family members including Alvin Walter and daughters in Minnesota Iowa and Des Moines. The obituary notes Johanna O Leary Linehan born 1868 in Pennsylvania taught in Anita schools and was a charter Anita Literary Club member. Walter F Budd editor of the Anita Tribune is mentioned.
Thirty years ago reports note visitors to Anita from Adair and Mt. Pleasant. Helen Radeke Berg writes from Portland about Anita in 1878, recalling editor Sherman Myers as a very young man. She mentions local hotels Wooster Whitney Bartlett and Dewey Bartlett on the porch with a violin. Walter M Budd served as Anita Tribune editor.
Miss Edith Pash and William Claussen recently wed, with Pash family ties to Avoca and Claussen to Anita. Local society notes mention Masonic and Eastern Star events in Maine, Mrs. Azel S. Ames hosting the Bridge Club, and grocery prices in town.
W W Fatka spoke to the Greater Anita Club later Chamber of Commerce. Jensen's Red and White offered beef roasts for 59 cents a pound. Phil's Super Market and Rug gles Corner Grocery sold butter for 69 cents. Kohl and Lantz Briardale Grocery sold coffee for 73 cents. A long bio of Sherman F Myers appeared under Long Long Ago. Father M J O Connor presided at St Mary's, and The Ashes edited the Tribune.
