Democratic caucuses set for Jan 19 in Cass County
Democratic chair Barb Leach reminds Cass County voters that precinct caucuses for selecting delegates to the county convention will be held Monday night January 19. Voters must be 18 by November 2, 1976, and need not be registered. Precinct locations include Anita, Cumberland, Massena and other townships, with venues such as the Anita Youth Center, Cumberland City Hall, and local banks. Delegates to the March 6 Atlantic convention will be chosen. the process starts at the caucuses. The 1976 Extension Service Family Living Committee plans and invites suggestions from residents.

Graveside Rites Held For Jennie Cox 97
Graveside rites were held at Anita Evergreen Cemetery for Mrs. Jeanette Hemphill Cox 97 with Rev. Neil Schroeder officiating. She was born August 1 1878 in Gladbrook and died January 9 in Des Moines. Surviving relatives include a grandson John Rex and two great grandchildren. She is preceded by several family members. The notice also mentions Ernest Harris buying a residence in Wiota and local club activities for the Senior Citizens Sunset Club in 1976.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Adair for Nels Morris Nelsen, age 57. The service was conducted by Pastor John Mix with hymns sung by the choir and military graveside rites at Anita Evergreen Cemetery by local posts. Surviving relatives include wife Helen and daughters Evelyn and Jane, plus several siblings. The obituary notes his World War II service in the 7th Armored Division and community memberships.

Rites Held for Guy R. LeRette 85
Funeral services for Guy R. LeRette 85 were held Friday afternoon at Long Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Henry officiating. Grandsons served as casket bearers and interment followed in Brighton Cemetery Maine. LeRette, born November 25 1890 in Hancock, passed away January 6 at Cass County Memorial Hospital after a career in Hancock Avoca Harlan and Anita areas. He married Bertha Cain in 1922 and the couple farmed in several towns before settling in Anita and later Des Moines and back to Anita. He leaves wife Bertha two sons Don and Dick 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
