Woods Celebrate Golden Wedding Open House

Mr and Mrs Fred Woods marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an open house on Tuesday January 3. Guests attended between 2 and 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm as sons Kenneth and Lewis and their wives greeted visitors and helped with the guest book. Over 100 friends and relatives attended.

Anita resident celebrates 82nd birthday in January event

Mrs. B. D. Forsshay of Anita marked her 82nd birthday on January 4. Born in Henry county Iowa, she moved to Atlantic then Anita with her parents and husband. Active in local clubs and cemetery work, she has reduced activities due to health. Also noted: a Young People’s Party held December 29 at the Community Bible Church with attendees from several towns. Weather shifts, school brief reopenings, and visitors from multiple states are listed.

New Handbook for Iowa Councilmen Issued to Town Councils

The League of Iowa Municipalities and the Institute of Public Affairs at the State University of Iowa announce a free handbook titled A Handbook for Iowa Councilmen. Written by Prof. Russell M. Ross and Max A. Conrad, the booklet explains relevant Iowa Code sections and duties of councils. Copies were mailed to municipal clerks for distribution to councilmen.

National Farm Pays 7 Pct Dividend to Atlantic members

A special 7 percent dividend is being mailed to more than 400 farmers in Cass and East Pottawattamie counties with Federal Land Bank loans through the Atlantic National Farm Loan Association. Checks totaling 7567.00 are issued under E. L. Breeden's announcement, the second dividend in 12 months following a 5 percent payout last July.

New Switchboard Changeover Aims At Better Service

Anita residents will soon enjoy an entirely new switchboard at the telephone office. West Iowa Telephone Co. is changing the system to improve service for patrons, with significant time, effort and money invested to benefit the community.

Mrs. Glynn Warren announces four county meetings for homemakers under the family living program. Discharge Returns for Harris From Yokohama Command

Prof Larry D Harris of Anita Iowa has returned to the United States for discharge after serving with the Yokohama Engineer Dept. Far East Command. A New Year’s Day dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Chas Borth of Anita included many local residents. Mrs Laura Buerkin visiting Denver from Atlantic rural school duties called on Kathryn DeCamp, now in Denver. Bill and Margaret Shaffer, students at State University at Town City, are home with their parents.

Herdsmen's course to open Jan 3 at Iowa State College

The Animal Husbandry Department at Iowa State College announced the winter herdsmen's course begins January 3 and ends March 17. The program leads to a special certificate after two quarters and targets young men seeking livestock farming careers or dairy herd improvement work. Enrollment requires at least 16 years old and eighth grade completion with a $46 registration fee.
