In a Dec meeting the Utility Board of Trustees approved a one month free electricity distribution for the Nov 20 to Dec 20 billing period. The total value equals about 9911.72 across Residential Commercial Public Funds and Municipal accounts totaling 476003 kilowatts.

Rites Held for Rhea Masching in Anita Funeral
Funeral services were held at Long Funeral Home for Mrs. Frank Masching 84 with Rev. Keith Hats officiating. Interment followed at Anita Evergreen Cemetery. She was born Ken Clark on March 6 1889 near Brayton and married Frank R Masching in 1910. She died December 3 at Crestwood Nursing Home survived by three daughters 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Rites Held for Jim Anstey 64 at St Timothy Reno
Funeral services were held for George James Anstey 64 at St Timothy s Catholic Church Reno. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Massena area mourners including his wife Vivian and children Janice Amber Jim Louis Bill Todd, plus siblings and in laws. Anstey a Massena area farmer and St Benedict College graduate died Dec 15 after a sudden illness. Massena Emergency Unit responded but he was dead on arrival. Funeral home arrangements were by Fuhrman. Burial in church cemetery. He previously lived in Anita and had many relatives in the area.

New Cass County Officials Take Office in County Board Swearing-In
New Cass County supervisors Leon Jensen Massena District five and De Wohlenhaus District four and sheriff Bob Woggesser Atlantic took office Tuesday after being sworn in at the county board meeting. Jensen replaces Norman Smith Cumberland and Wohlenhaus replaces Marion Blanchard Griswold. Woggesser succeeds Ben Magill as sheriff. Four current county officers began new terms including auditor Dale King clerk of court Mrs Frank McMullen county attorney Ray Warham and Raymond Dorsey. Deputy staff include Thomas Pope Lewis and Janice Thiessen. Dave Herrick was re elected board chairman and several officials were named deputy examiners and delegates. The Atlantic News Telegraph Griswold American and Anita Tribune were named official county newspapers. Senior Citizens Potluck Tuesday at Legion Hall invites all seniors.
