Betsy Crawford Weds Edward Ruggles in Anita Church

Betsy Rose Crawford and Edward Ruggles, both of Anita, were married Sunday afternoon December 30 at 2 in the Congregational church of Anita. Rev. Frank E. Henry officiated. The ceremony featured a double ring rite with yellow mums and palms adorning the altar and relatives and close friends in attendance.

Victory Clothing Drive Kicks Off Next Monday

A regional Victory Clothing Collection Drive for Overseas Relief begins next Monday. The notice lists local volunteers and community groups coordinating the effort, with aims to gather usable garments for service members and relief programs across theaters of operation.

Fire Destroys Farm Home Near Anita New Year’s Day

Fire of undetermined origin gutted the farm home and contents of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kline north of Anita on Tuesday. A chimney spark is believed to have started the blaze, which consumed the house before Anita’s Fire Dept could save it. A nearby outbuilding was saved, most household goods burned, and the couple’s insurance covered the loss. Mrs. Kline, aged and ill, was cared for at her daughter’s home after the shock.

Woodring McCrory Swap Vows In Anita Home Ceremony

Capt Dale McCrory son of Mr and Mrs William McCrory and Betty Woodring daughter of Mr and Mrs J C Woodring wed at the bride’s brother’s home in Anita Friday at 8 pm. Officiant Rev Richard Chambers led the candle light rite with attendants Eilen Eckert and Lyle Woodring. The groom, an Army Air Corps reserve member, served 83 missions in the European Theatre. They will reside on a farm southwest of Anita.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Meador entertained friends Friday night for their son Pvt Albert Meador on furlough from Fort Leavenworth. D D Pinochle Club met at home with ecards and lunch. Mrs Chadwick hosted and Mrs Chadwick won high score, Mrs Heeren low.

Legion and Auxiliary Hold Regular Monthly Meeting

The American Legion and Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on December 28 1945 with Mrs Guy Steinmetz presiding in the absence of the president. Reports covered bingo proceeds candy deliveries sunshine plates and sympathy and get well cards to members. A note on Pan American study Panama was read alongside a 99th birthday feature on Iowa. Door prize awarded to Herbert Bartley and lunch for 25 members was provided.

Mother of Mrs Petersen dies. services held in Minnesota

Mrs Marie Jacobson mother of Mrs Andrew Petersen south of Anita died last week at a Moorehead Minnesota home of another daughter Mrs Eplem Olson. Mrs Petersen missed the services due to illness and was unaware of the death. She is in a Council Bluffs hospital improving.

Donald Hagen Dies Suddenly

Funeral services were held for Donald Hagen 27 son of Mr and Mrs Adolph Hagen at the Roland Peacock and Baxter funeral home in Atlantic. Rev M D Summerbell led the service with music by Mrs Carl Moore Mrs Harold Smith and Mrs Summerhill. Burial was at the cemetery near Lewis. He died at the Regis Hotel in Omaha where he worked after a period of ill health. He was an Anita High School graduate class of 1937 and a member of the BPOE in Omaha. Survivors include his parents five brothers and two sisters.

Anita Junior High Hires New Teacher Carroll Koons

The Anita School Board has engaged Carroll Koons of Libertyville as a junior high teacher. Mrs Harold Heeren has resigned after teaching at the school. Koons recently received his army discharge and has served as an instructor before entering the service.

Death of Dr I F Crosby in Pasadena California

Herbert Bartley learned of his uncle Dr I F Crosby passing away at his Pasadena home. A noted Stuart Iowa physician surgeon he moved to Pasadena in 1921 joining Huntington Memorial Hospital staff. Funeral held December 21 at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Crosby remembered in Anita through Bartley visits. Mrs Marjorie Gill Summerville returned to Los Angeles after holidays with her parents.

Popular Musical Starts Sunday For 3 Big Days

Anita Theatre opens Sunday January 9 with Fred MacMurray Joan Leslie and June Haver in a Technicolor musical. The comedy follows a maze of dates from 1945 to 1952 with song hits and sweeping production as Morrie Ryskind provides witty book and score.
