The monthly meeting opened by President Reed. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. A Pan American discussion was presented with a fine talk on the country the unit is studying. A report was made and seconded after the Pan American magazine.
Lincoln Township youths met at Ray Laartz home to form the Lincoln Sons of Farmers and donate 45 00 to Jim Davis White’s Act. Monthly meetings planned. reports included plate numbers, poetry by Lagknaire and Mrs Wy, door prize won by Mrs Leber. Awards, games, and a bridge event at Adair with Mrs Robson and Vola Kuester attending.
The following officers were elected at the meeting: President Gary Dreshler, vice president Dale Lantz, secretary treasurer Wayne Shen, and reporter Duane Hhieger. Raymond Laartz and Elmer The next meeting will be at Royce Bissells on January 31.
A mixed report covers hunting season notes from pheasant statistics to church activities at Community Bible Church. It cites average hunter efforts, age classifications of birds, and population concerns, then shifts to a New Year’s Watch Party hosted by Pastor Littell at the Lincoln Center area.
The Anita Boy Scouts announce a paper drive this Saturday January 4. Collect and tie newspapers magazines and similar papers and place them on the porch or curb for pickup. Trucks begin at 8 a.m.
The boys and girls basketball teams travel to Lewis next Tuesday night. They lost a double header to Bridgewater on New Year Eve at Bridgewater. Theodore Nichols of Long Beach formerly Anita called at Mrs. B. D. For sday last Sunday. Mrs. Nichols visits relatives in Atlantic during the holiday season.
The Community Bible Church of Anita files Articles of Incorporation with the County Recorder on December 28. Pastor-Evangelist David TW Mathews announces the church is an Independent Fundamental denomination under Iowa law with authority to call and ordain pastors and ministers. The Articles of Faith rest on historic fundamental truths.
The Christmas program organized by the Congo Sunday school drew praise for its large turnout and generous gifts. The minister and wife led a long unwrapping session, with cash gifts and numerous presents. Guests and singers from Beth Icham and other churches contributed to a candlelight service, praised by about 150 attendees as among the best in 26 years.
Herman Buken becomes the new manager of the Skelly Oil Station in Anita succeeding Hans Rasmussen of Atlantic. Buken, born in the Wiota area, was district man for Fox Bill Feed Co. He and his family now reside in Anita after purchasing the Dick Dement property.
Fred Kuehn of Anita buys the Elm Street home from a Sullivan party with possession set for March 1. The James Davis family currently occupies the house and may leave earlier due to Mr. Davis needing hospitalization after a serious accident. If vacated, the Kuehns plan to move soon. Local visitors Byron Harris and family returned from military service in Japan.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Eden residence of Mr and Mrs Otto Eden on 7th and Chestnut Thursday forenoon. Mrs Eden smelled smoke and alerted Anita Fire Department but the blaze had developed beyond saving the house and its contents, which were partially insured.
The Square Deal 4-H Club met Thursday evening near Anita for its Christmas party attended by members and seven visitors. William Pollock was elected a delegate to the Amos short course. Refreshments were served by Mrs Rowley Pollock. The January 9 meeting will be with Marvin Reed.
Gay Grant Gals 4-H Club met last Friday December 27 with Dororthy McCrory in charge of music and business. Mrs McCrory demonstrated floor plans, Mrs Gilbert Wehrman spoke on color harmonizing, Nancy Wehrman led recreation. Eight members attended and were treated to refreshments by Mrs Richter. Next meeting set for February 5 with Joyce Turner.
Miss Wilma Warren, soon to wed Hiner Bisgaard of Emmittsburg Iowa, was guest of honor at two miscellaneous showers in Anita. Hosts Mrs Rasmussen and Mrs Elmer Pellet planned a festively decorated event with 20 Atlantic guests, games won by Mesdames Pellet Nilges and others, gifts presented by Janet Nelson, and refreshments served.
Mr and Mrs Glin A Roe and Mrs Elizabeth Nichols of Anita and Mr and Mrs W B Spence of Atlantic left Thursday morning for Iowa City to attend the ceremony of Dr Jackson Roe of Anita and Miss Nona Seberg of Mr Pleasant. The ceremony will be at the Congregational Church chapel in Town City at 4 p m.
Marvin and Arthur Barnholdt spent Christmas and New Year’s with their parents Art and Swede Barnholdt in Modesto California. Also present were Mrs and Mrs Norman Barnholdt of Massena and Mr and Mrs Earl Schlee plus Joleen Slaughter Hobart Westfall of Adair. The brothers then left to return to construction work in California.
Lincoln Lincolnettes held a Wednesday evening gathering at the Lincoln Center community hall. Four girls entertained about 40 attendees including out of town guests Mr. Frank Bailey and Miss Opal McKeenan from Atlantic. Bailey is a county official and McKeenan is county home economist. Games and singing preceded refreshments served by the hosts and leaders.
Mr and Mrs William H McIntyre received a New Years Day lottery from their son Lt Donald McIntyre of the Air Corp stationed at Ladd Field near Fairbanks Alaska He pilots a B 26 and is testing experimental equipment in Alaska He reports temperatures near 60 degrees below zero with the thermometer often about 55 below
The James Davis Fund lists hundreds of donors from American Legion posts to local businesses and individuals. Entries include Alfred Dement 5.00, Merlin Houta 0, Roy Parker 10.00, Veterans of Foreign Wars 47.00, St. Marys Catholic Church 54.00, Dan Breen 1500, and many more. Total given shown as 607.03 after cash deduction 424.24.
The Friendly Circle Club held its annual Christmas party Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Keasey with eight members and families present. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bailey and girls and George Marshall. High scores went to Mrs. Ted Cooley and Paul Barber. low scores to Mrs. Filton Christenson and Leonard Bailey. A chili supper followed as seventeen relatives and friends joined Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson at Christmas Eve gathering.
