Iowa Band Highlanders To Perform On TV At Rose Bowl

Iowa's oldest ensemble the State University of Iowa Marching Band joins the 75 member SUI Scottish Highlanders for a New Year's telecast from Pasadena during the Tournament of Roses. Viewers will see new midnight blue uniforms and Meredith Willson conduct the Town Fight Song. The groups also perform at Disneyland before an 18 car train trip home via Grand Canyon and Wichita.

New Babies Born To Local Families Over Holidays

A daughter named Lei Sue blessed Atlantic Memory Hospital on December 26 at 6 am weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce, first child for her parents. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs Carl Livingston and Mr and Mrs Chester Kline with great grandparents Soren San heck and Clara Pierson. In Redfield a daughter Penny Marie arrived December 26 at Redfield Hospital weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces, third child for her family. Grandparents listed as Bart Lantz, Arnold Griffin, and Marjorie Griffin. great grandparents Curtis Clark and Ollie Taylor. Mr and Mrs Morris Wilson of 907 Sum St Atlantic welcomed a son weighing 9 pounds 344 ounces on December 27 at 2:22 am at Atlantic Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are John Lamberty and Plima Wilson.

March of Dimes Campaign Launches in Cass County

Downing Rites Held Wednesday

Three members of the Downing family were killed in a head on crash on Highhay 6 four miles east of Ottawa Illinois. The 12 year old son Raymond survived with severe facial injuries and will be hospitalized for months. Funeral services were held at Exira Christian Church with local clergy officiating.

Former teacher hospitalized after fall in Youngstown

Mrs. Erma Salmon suffered a broken ankle from a fall down stairs and is hospitalized in Southside Hospital Room 107 Youngstown Ohio. She expects a two to three week stay. The Salmons taught in Anita before moving to Youngstown. Duane Freund visiting with the Marsh Zelenys in Chicago.

Anita Home and Garden Club meets for cooperative dinner

The Anita Home and Garden Club gathered at the V.F.W. hall on Monday for a 12:00 cooperative dinner with 23 members present. Gifts for perfect attendance were given, yearbooks distributed by new president Mrs Wayne Sisler, and contest winners announced. Veda Bailey was in Des Moines Monday.

Anita Bowling and the Redwood, defeating Matthews Drug, sweep three games in Atlantic Nite Owl League. Ding Osen tops both high game and series with 212 and 551 for Matthews, while Chet Kuhl leads Redwood with 169 and 478. The Cass County League see Jewetts Elevator beat Kay's Turkey Farm two of three as Ding Osen again posts a 214 high game and 575 series.

Eye Bank Plea Urges Towans to Sign Donor Cards

The Lions Eye Bank at State University of Towan Hos pitals seeks more donors to sign eye donor cards. Since 1955 over 85 corneal transplants have been done at SUT, but eye availability has dwindled slowing research and sight restoration efforts.

Mrs. Ethel Goodrich Dies at 86 in Atlantic Memorial

Mrs. Ethel Goodrich, 86, died at Atlantic Memorial hospital Monday night after a period at Potter's nursing home since May. Funeral arrangements will be completed upon arrival of a nephew.

Lewellyn McIntyre Dies at 76 in California

Lewellyn McIntyre son of William A. and Jeanette Gallup McIntyre died of a heart attack on December 21 in Lakeside California at age 76. He spent much of his life in the Colorado and Idaho mining industries. He is survived by his wife Emma two stepdaughters three sisters and one brother of Anita. Burial was in San Diego California.

Tax payments accepted at Anita State Bank

Cass County residents may pay taxes at the Anita State Bank. The County Treasurer's office will mail tax statements soon, and taxpayers should bring their statements to the bank. The first half payment is due March 31 to avoid a penalty.

Edith Turner, 83, Dies in Kansas City Area

Edith Turner formerly of Anita dies at 83 at her son Leland Turner’s home in Kansas City. Survived by son Leland, daughter Mrs Howard Joy of Sherburn Minnesota, brother Ray Pine. Services and burial planned in Anita. funeral arrangements incomplete.
