Mrs Jessie Wheeler Arrives From California

Mrs. Jessie Wheeler of Campbell California arrived in Anita Monday morning and plans to live there indefinitely. She is the mother of Charles Walker and has rented an apartment in the Bill Littleton home. Mr and Mrs Herlul Jeppesen visited Des Moines to see Fd Jorgensen at the Des Moines General hospital following a recent operation. Mr and Mrs Harold Wahlert and family were supper guests November 2 at the Lyman Wahlert home.

Walnut Invades Home Court Friday Night

This week Walnut visits Anita on Friday for a boys and girls basketball doubleheader. The Anita teams split games last week with the girls losing 67 64 to a fast Elliott squad and the boys also dropping a game. Monday saw Cumberland teams visit Anita. the junior high won in two overtimes, the girls beat Cumberland 51 33, and the boys fell 34 31.

Pythian Sisters Plan Officers for December Meeting

The Pythian Sisters met Monday night with nominations for officers and a vote due at the December 18 meeting. Nominated were past chief Mrs. Frank Neighbors and others, with Mrs. Sterling Sorensen serving as press correspondent. Lunch was provided by Mrs. Merle Robison and Mrs. Drexel Chadwick, and the group will hold a Christmas grab bag at the next gathering.

Santa to Visit Anita Saturday

Children in Anita on Saturday afternoon December 9 will meet Santa Claus at about 2:00 pm in the park with a 3:00 pm gift basket drawing by local merchants in the Greater Anita Club effort. Stores will be open December 20 23 for last minute shopping.

Farm officer chased by cow on Highway 141

Staff Sergeant Al Cowan of Scottsfield Illinois met a cow on Highway 141 between Creston and Osceola while en route to visit his wife and family at H. J. Spies home. Cowan and the cow were uninjured. The cow’s owner was contacted and Carl Benson arrived with Cowan in Anita early Friday. No damage estimate given. Cowan received an extended five day leave.

Funeral for Lettie B. Neve Held in Hancock Iowa

Mrs Lettie B Neve aged 69 died November 23 and was buried in Hancock cemetery Attending were Mr and Mrs Guy LeRette Anita Mr and Mrs Delbert Akers Extra Mr and Mrs Dick LeRette and son Walnut and Mr and Mrs Don LeRette and family Des Moines Family notes Lettie Neve was a sister to Guy LeBette.

Anita P. T. A. Benefit Nets Over 100 Dollars

The Anita P. T. A. annual benefit drew a large crowd at the high school gym last Thursday evening, netting 103 dollars. Two fun games highlighted the event with the Bloomer Girls mothers team edging the high school girls 18 to 15, and the fathers beating the high school boys 23 to 18. Local figures and referees assisted, while Sunday brought a birthday party for Gail Burke with a brid ge and dinner club gathering.

Burial set for Lafe E. Simpson in Extra Saturday

Funeral services were held for Lafe E. Simpson 69 at Extra Federated church following a Wednesday stroke. He owned and sold the county telephone exchange in 1914 and spent his life in Audubon county before moving to a farm near Extra. Survivors include his wife Kathryn a daughter Ramona Knick of Milwaukee two sons Ted and James of Extra two sisters Esta Carey and Ethyl Truman and four grandsons.

Adair County 4-H Supports International Farm Youth Exchange

Adair County 4-H clubs and Rural Youth will fund the 1951 International Farm Youth Exchange program. The program enables farm youth exchanges for summer months to foster better international understanding, with previous Iowa exchanges from Finland Scotland France Sweden Netherlands Austria and Brazil. Delegates spoke to about 50 000 people across 400 talks, plus radio appearances, highlighting broad reach and impact. Mr and Mrs George Thygesen visited a sister north of Adair.

Last Rites for Former Anita Resident Held Tuesday

William Harold Champion 70 of Menlo died Sunday night at 8 15 in Des Moines Still hospital after a lingering illness. Born February 25 1880 in Mattoon Illinois he lived in Anita before moving to a farm near Menlo where the family has resided eighteen years. Survived by widow two daughters Ruth Fickeng Nashville Tennessee and Mildred France Annapolis Maryland a brother Ray E Champion Mattoon Illinois and a sister Mabel Kennedy Magnolia Springs Alabama plus four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Funeral services were at Long Funeral Home Tuesday at 1 30 P M with Rev C M Orcutt officiating and Obedience Lodge No 380 A B P A M ritual.
