Ward files contest of Cass county auditor race

Annie M Ward former Cass county auditor contests 1936 election results claiming illegal votes in most precincts including Atlantic and Cass county. She alleges ballots miscounted altering outcome. Postal Laws Trial Involving Postmaster and Mail Carrier

Federal court in Des Moines returned indictments charging Ralph J. Ymer Elliott postmaster and a mail carrier with violations of postal laws. Indictments allege taking and destroying letters in routes to Sears Roebuck in Kansas City and Chicago Mail Order Co. Massena and Nevada residents named, with vouchers showing pay of 1651.10. A bridal dinner followed. Mrs Nylund a Coty College Nevada Mo graduate and longtime stenographer at Hotel Muehlebach in Kansas City. Mr Nylund son of Mrs Julian Nylund of Kansas City owns a floral shop there and the couple have established a home.

Iowa will study causes of fatal highway accidents

The Iowa State Planning Board and the State Highway Commission in Des Moines began a data driven study to analyze factors behind fatal automobile crashes. Using state and insurance records, 2000 to 2500 deaths over four years will be cross tabulated by age vehicle condition violations road type and other factors to identify preventive measures and inform legislation and public education. A state spot map will plot accident locations and pair with traffic flow data.

Plan changes in relief program in Cass county

A survey of 450 WPA relief cases began in Cass county under state and county relief officials led by Frances Hoar. About 800 workers on relief projects remain, with 68 slated to be removed by December 15. Officials plan to refer drought relief workers to the rural resettlement administration and place farm laborers on WPA jobs.
