Good Neighbor Sam at Anita Theater This Week

Lemmon stars as Sam in Columbia's Good Neighbor Sam at the Anita Theater this Saturday and Sunday. The two hour color film portrays a big advertising man who finds himself in comedic situations after helping a German neighbor move in next door. The film is rated with an A-2 tag by the Legion of Decency and is praised for its humor while cautioning younger viewers.

Anita Woman Surprised on 80th Birthday

Mrs Christine Johnson was surprised with a Sunday birthday dinner at St Marys parish hall for her 80th birthday celebrated with 40 relatives and friends. A floral centerpiece of white snapdragons and red tarnations adorned the table and a white pink cake baked by a daughter was served. Corner Pocket Open House Draws 350 Guests

About 350 people attended the Corner Pocket open house on Sunday November 28. Attendees came from New Jersey North Dakota and nearby towns to see donations’ impact and celebrate the back room opening. John Burke cut the ribbon as David Hansen presented a gift to him. The 1964 65 Corner Pocket officers gifted the Youth Center and the event raised roughly 150 for donations plus about 25 from the dance leaving the venue about 200 in debt. Coffee cookies and sodas were served throughout.

Anita Community School District Receives Title 1 Funds

The Anita district is allocated 33 368.85 from Title 1 funds under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to help educationally deprived students. Funds may hire instructors and counselors and support special classes, with eligibility based on 1960 census figures. districts study needs and plan uses after December 1, 1965.

Utilities Spends $6500 on Christmas 'Presents'

Anita Municipal Utilities gave a Christmas dividend by paying free residential bills for 411 customers amounting to $3,970.29 and 91 commercial customers totaling $2,195.85. Public funds accounts added $412.12, with overall electric bills totaling $6,578.26. Water and sewer bills remain due.

Radar Nabs 27 Tickets On Highway 90 Sunday

Highway patrol used radar on Highway 90 to issue 27 speeding tickets in the Anita area during a three county crackdown over the Thanksgiving weekend. Violations ranged 68 to 86 mph with 60 mph posted at night and penalties including fines per mph and potential license suspensions for excessive speeds. Also in the three county drive, 110 car drivers and 20 truckers received court summons, and 31 drivers were cited with warnings. Aunt note mentions Evona Steinmetz turning 94 as she and Robert Cooper visited Knoxville to celebrate Ella Ghrist’s birthday.

Hospitalizations and military enlistment in Cass county

Mrs Harley Miller was admitted to Atlantic Memorial Hospital for observation last week. Mrs J H Schaake, recently moved from Templeton to Carroll, suffered a stroke and was treated at St Anthony's Car Toll and later discharged to Rose Scppe Nursing Home Templeton. Billy Simon, son of Mr and Mrs Bill Simon, is among three Cass county youths reporting for military duty on Wednesday December 1 under the selective service program.

Shaffer sponsors first new cage contest in Tribune

O W Shaffer and Shaffer OH Co sponsor the first in a seven game basketball guessing contest limited to Southwest Iowa Conference games and published only in the Anita Tribune. Entry requires clipping the ad or using a form, naming the boy and girl teams and guessing team points. Three weekly winners receive complimentary Anita basketball tickets.

Christmas plans unfold in Anita Chamber program

The Anita Chamber of Commerce Retail committee unveils a holiday lineup with two merchandise drawings on December 18 and 24 at Bandshell Park, two kiddie movie showings at the Anita Theatre on December 11 and 18, and Santa’s visit at the Anita Legion Hall on December 24. Children receive treats and signing certificates with purchases as stores stay open late December 21 to 23, with Christmas Eve hours reducing to 4 p.m.

Anita's New Postoffice Nears Completion

Anita's new postoffice building is almost finished with floor tiling and interior painting in light and dark green plus a white ceiling. The screen line and mailboxes are not yet installed and moving date into the new quarters is January 1, 1906.
