Fire damages Menlo Park home in morning blaze

Firemen estimate 1000 dollars in damage after clothes left near an oven started a kitchen fire at 101 Spruce Street in Menlo Park. The house was occupied by Mrs Claudia Brown and owned by her son Harvey Brown, 1830 El Camino Real.

Legion Auxiliary Monthly Meeting Recap at Legion Hall

The American Legion Auxiliary met Friday evening at the Legion Hall with Mrs. Harvey Scholl presiding. Reports covered school instruction, county meeting at Cumberland, and Armistice dinner. 1700 canceled stamps sent to California veterans and other items to hospitals. Ella Biggs spoke on oil supply and Venezuela education and read the Marine Hymn. a talk on Thanks and Giving followed. The unit voted to buy a gas range for the Legion Babath Am, and prizes and refreshments were shared among 30 members plus guests.

Funeral Services Lat for Rickel infant

Funeral services were held in Anita for infant Roberta Jean Rickel with Rev Herold Butts officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. The child was born Thanksgiving Day November 25 and died about twelve hours later at Atlantic Memorial hospital Mea. Rickel was released from the hospital Monday.

Well-Known Former Resident Passes

Alexander Shadbolt 73 of Atlantic died last Wednesday after a long illness at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday at Taylor funeral home with burial in Grin nell cemetery. He formerly lived near Anita where he kept a bookshop and later moved to Atlantic. He is survived by his widow and a son from a former marriage, Prof. Edward Shadbolt of Stockton California.

Methodist Plan Basket Dinner and Dedication Services

The focal Methodist Church completed repairs including an oil furnace painting new chancel altar and carpeting. The congregation raised about 3200 and invite 67¢ friends and former pastors for a Fellowship Day on Dec 12 with Dr Swick Rev A V Long Rev M D Summerbell and Dr W F Cleyburg among expected speakers.
